Had my Rex mapped today - results!
Discussion
I have had my Rex for a couple of months now & although it was obviously a good car it wasn't running to the best of it's potential. The previous owner told me it was running the base map on the power FC ECU & that a re-map would be required. As I hadn't owned one of these cars before it was difficult to judge just how good/bad it was running, it felt quick, albeit lumpy, with hesitation at around five & a half k revs, & plenty of backfires on the overrun.
I booked a mapping session with RE:Worx, nr Portsmouth today, & came back with a huge grin. First of all they needed to sort out a cooling issue, I didn't realise it but the intercooler duct was missing, so the i/c didn't have a direct flow of cold air. Then they discovered a strange problem with the coolant system. It looked to me that someone had modified the pipework to miss out the AST bottle, but that was only half the story. That mod had been started, but not finished! There was nowhere for the coolant to overflow to, & to compound matters it didn't even have a pressurised cap. This was something they had not seen before, & I was told I was very lucky the engine didn't go pop!
Well, they sorted this out too, & also rewired the fuel pump, as the voltage drop through the wiring meant the car ran lean.
This too was sorted & mapping could begin.
Other than the A'pexi Powert FC & commander, the only other mods are Trust intercooler, A'pexi air filters, de-cat & free flow exhaust.
So, the end result? 333bhp @ the flywheel & 300lbft torque, @ 0.9bar.
320bhp @ 0.8bar.
Not too shabby as the standard figure for a '93 car is 255bhp.
The car now pulls like the preverbial train, it was quick before but now it is really something.
A big thumbs up to the RE:Worx guys, very helpful too, highly recommended.
I cannot wait for sunday at santa Pod to see what sort of times I can get!!
