After nearly two years of ownership I decided it was time to fiddle with the MR2 a little. So with a lot of help from a friend and a couple of evenings battling with 9 year old bolts, I've got a set of BC Racing adjustable coilovers installed. They're much firmer but the damping is beautifully controlled compared to the tired stock setup, it's a huge improvement.

I've got a set of uprated anti-roll bars to go on too, I'm just waiting for someone to sort out some beefy droplinks so I can fit them since the standard ones are useless. Once everything's on and the ride height is set where I want it, I'll go to have the wheel geometry set up as it's probably wildy out of spec now, certainly feels like the front camber is off.

I may get a new exhaust soon too, to make it sound a bit less like an Avensis smile

Always liked these MR2's and yours looks particularly good. Going to do any engine mods at all?

Not at the moment, they're not a very cheap car to get more power out of. They take well to turbocharging, likewise swapping the engine for a 190hp 2ZZ lump or 3-litre V6, but whichever way you go it's a big investment. Tuning the standard engine isn't terribly worthwhile; even with replacement intake, exhaust, cams and ECU (so probably £1200+) people are getting about 25hp extra tops with no real path forwards aside from a fully built engine.

Turbo the 1zz, been done many times with great results.

Turbocharging is effective, but it's a lot of money to put into the car (£3k+ realistically) and would bump up my insurance a lot compared to the handling and aural mods.

great little cars these... often considered one as a replacement for my old mk2 mx5, as they make similarly great project cars for a bit of fast road / occasional trackday fun...

LOVE the V6 swaps too...

This was waiting for me when I got home from work tonight! It popped up on Ebay being sold by (I think) Powerspeed. It's a custom manifold that feeds straight into a 200-cell sports cat then a Magnaflow twin-pipe backbox. The tailpipes are a bit OTT but I got it all for a great price and it's really nicely made.

The whole lot weighs about 44lbs (weighed by holding it while standing on the bathroom scales, so not accurate) so it will save a bit of weight (15-20lbs IIRC), mainly due to the significantly smaller cat.

Well having finally got the uprated ARBs fitted with new droplinks, a new set of tyres and booking it in for the MOT at the last minute, I've had a chance to take her for a proper drive to place with the damper settings a little. It's going to a take a bit of tweaking to get it just right, but it's already handling beautifully.

It is a lovely little car that Jaik. Never mind Turbos, thats cheating.

I knew they did the Mk2 V6 conversions but after reading that thread the other day about the V6 going into the Roadster... that sounds like a mighty fine idea.

I've been following that V6 conversion on the owners club (MR2ROC). I'd like a V6, I'd like a turbo, I'd like a 2ZZ-GE (190hp 1.8) and I'd like a supercharger, but insurance is going to stop any of those from happening in the next year or two. The chassis could handle an extra 50+hp without flinching now.
