Here is my VW Golf Mk3 Golf GTI 8v. Classed by many as the lardy version but i really like it and it goes like stink! Its quite tatty at the momment as prevoius owner let it roll into a tree then made a complete hash of repairing it. Going to try and sort the bodywork myself so it could poissbly end in tears lol. watch this space
Mods so far:
Miltek Dual Exhaust
A few VW goodies
Dubway Decal
Club GTI Decal
Plans:
Fit Coilovers
Respray Wheels Black
Chequred or All Black Bonnent
Replace front bumper and wings and other bodywork as very tatty
Sort problem with selecting 1st gear
fit a decent stereo system
Fit an areil that actually picks up radio stations
And one day maybe fit a 1.8t or VR6 conversion

Are you sure? All 115bhp? A flatmate had a 16v Mk3 (Colour Magic(?) end of line, leather and toys version) and that mostly definitely didn't go like stink. It was stretching the term "hot hatch" to the very limits of plausability. Perhaps the 8v are a lot lighter? It looks quite good in silver, needs dropping a little to improve the stance.

You're right, the 2.0 8v 115bhp engine is pretty lethargic but it depends on what car the OP has owned beforehand.
Going from my 998cc Mini to the 2.0 8v coupe meant that the coupe felt like the fastest car in the world over 40-50mph.
Anyway, those golfs are nice solid cars and they're cheap as chips at the moment. Good buy.
