Here's my new daily drive. After a while toying with the idea of replacing my rusty (yet trusty) Escort TD, I decided to release some cash and get a bit of an upgrade. Not much of a car really. A 2001 Mondeo 2.0 Ghia. But after the Escort TD, luxuriosly specced with central locking, and errrm, a diesel engine, this is a whole world of luxury. Acc, cruise control, a decent CD player, windows that go up and down with the push of a button, electric heated seats, and its a roomy, quiet comfortable cruiser. I was also pleasantly surprised with the economy. After the half litre per 10kms frugality of the Escort I was prepared to take a hit in the wallet for the refinement and power of a bigger petrol engine. I reach home yesterday after the 300km journey home, check the trip computer (they're great toys too aren't they ?), and it says I've used 0.62 litres per 10km !! Fantastic. I never thought I could be so happy about a Mondeo. (You'll have to work out yourselves what l/km is in mpg - if you can be arsed). So anyway, here's the new barge. Waiting for a wash/wax/spruce up before it enters into the weekly drudge of 600km and ready to do battle with the touch parking, door dinging idiots in the city.

It's around 45.8mpg
Google says 45.56mpg - http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=0.062+l%2Fkm+in+m...Looks in decent nick - better than an Escort anyway!
I had one of them for a year and 25k miles until February and it was a great car.
Why did you go for a 4 door though? Mine was a 4 door too (bought cheap off a colleague) and it annoyed the hell out of me. More than once I had to take the Fiat 500 to pick up stuff I couldn't fit into the Mondeo - it was a massive car but the lack of a hatchback meant it was a nightmare. I swapped it for an Astra estate which has managed to carry bikes, dishwashers, garden rubbish and all manner of junk the Fiat used to have to move because it wouldn't fit through the boot opening of the Ford.
Apart from the practicalities it's a fantastic car for the money, mine had done 125k miles (200k KM) when I bought it and in the next 25k only needed tyres, one wheel bearing (half an hour to change), a battery and rear pads & discs.

I quite like the saloon shape, and this one came up cheap, with only 60k on the clock and a retired gentleman former keeper. (Otherwise I wouldn't really have cared if it was a saloon, hatch or estate). Besides, 95% of the time spent with this car, it'll be only me in it. If I need load lugging capacity then me and SHMBO have an XC70 & XC90.Why did you go for a 4 door though? Mine was a 4 door too (bought cheap off a colleague) and it annoyed the hell out of me. What I am going to miss is the perspective. Getting out of the old diesel Escort made me appreciate the modernities and comfort of the Volvos. Now my daily driver gives me that, it won't feel so nice at the weekend.
