Just joined up so thought I'd better do a little write up on my golf. Bought it just over three years ago with the intention of running it as my daily, commuting 50 miles a day on Devons country roads, that didn't last long, haha. Always wanted a decent car to tamper with, and was sick to death with driving a slow derv, so drove all the way to Hastings to pick up this one. Heres a pic from when I got it, was standard apart from the suspension, wheels and grill:

Unfortunately got on the slippery slope of changing parts which all started with a Milltek exhaust, but have pretty just been through everything to make it drive as new or in many cases, far better than new smile Not had a great deal of luck with some things, now being on my third engine after making the ebay mistake. Anyway heres the current spec and pics:

new 2 litre 9a 16v from vw, with a flowed head and a few other tweaks
setrab oil cooler fitted with a spal fan
Milltek stainless 4 branch and full exhaust
Custom made alloy airbox
Vibratechnics engine mounts
Neuspeed short shift with weighted shift rod
polybushed front wishbones
Wietek hicon gt coilovers with g60 top mounts
polybushed H&R antiroll bars
Front upper and rear strut braces
G60 brakes with braided hoses brembo solid discs, Ferodo Ds performance pads and dot 5.1 fluid
bbs rm's with stainless dishes
bmw e30 leather front seats, no rears and factory leather door cards
bbs steering wheel

A few bits still to fit:
fully rebuilt gearbox with lightened and balance flywheel and a sachs sporting clutch
baffled sump and windage tray.

Heres a few up to date pics, will try and get interior and engine pics when I can.

and one of my favourite pics from last year at the ring:

Very nice, why does it have those slats cut out on one side?

That's where the airbox and filter usually is on the Mk2s as it draws air in from inside the panel behind the lights. The vents cut into the panel will be there to get more air into the system.

I would not have put the inside set of headlights in though. Looks very nice and fresh.

Spot on! The only place for cold air to get to the airbox is the tiny gap around the headlight, but there is a plastic cover on the inside wing which Ive removed and the vent (hopefully) lets a bit of nice cold air in.

Cheers for all the comments!

I've only changed back to the standard grill this year for a bit of a change, but still have the single headlight one and crosshair lights in the garage, so I can change them when I feel like it smile I have grown to really like the quad look again, so it's staying for now, but I am going to swap the orange indicators back to smoked for the moodier look.

Great looking car! Nice to see the Transporter vent on an otherwise standard looking car, wouldn't have thought of doing it myself but works really well!

Sex wee.

On a side note, drilling holes under the airbox is supposedly the way to prevent heatsoak rather than drilling through bodywork?!

Looks neat though, good effort
