Had it a few months, after selling the S3 to start saving for a house i had a golf VR6 but that was short lived due to an obscenely hard riding suspension kit. Then this came up at work for the Bargain price of £1000. I was a bit dubious after all the things you hear about Alfa's and GTV rear suspension, This was an owners club car and has been coveted all its life (came with a carrier bag full of recipts!!) The condition is overall pretty damn good, it was a ladies car so has a fair few shopping centre car park marks but it polishes up very well and mechanically is very nearly perfect!
[ETA: it had only done 86,000 when i collected]

Already im getting Alfa'itus, i love the way it drives and seems to will you to push it round corners, then just as you think your near the limit... you look down and your doing 30... its fantastic fun! Had to do twice the speed to get the same buzz from the S3. Fingers crossed i will stay loving this car and keep it!

Over to you guys, what do you think?

How i collected it:

How it is now, After a bloody good clean and polish + sporting her new wheels:

Only future plans are perhaps to get a suspension kit as i think it rides a bit high and some different tyres, Would dearly love to respray it but i just dont think its worth it sadly frown.

That's a cracking bit of kit for a grand ! Well done. Still remember the very first time I saw one of these in the flesh - thought it looked amazing.

They're still stunning (the coupes only - the spider lost all proportion and balance). And good work on the wheels - they are the only wheels to have on a GTV.

Lovely car. I know that the GTV's have a bit of a reputation in that you either got a good one or a lemon, but the design still looks good today, particularly in red. Bet you are proper pleased that it only cost 1k.

A fantastic car for such little money. They featured one on TG a couple of series ago. James May pulled up with a pretty good looking example only for the tt Hammond to pull up along side and put a dent on the door for "comedic value". furious

Graham, stunning. I love these and have been sneakily considering one as a weekend car for quite a while. Keep us posted on how you get on......£1k seems ridiculous for something that beautiful.

I honestly want one but for some reason Im searching for GTV's 'younger' than 03. Am I being too over-cautious?!
in a word.... yes. mines a 1996 with 90,000 miles now. admittedly its been looked after with the care and attention a Ferrari deserves but... its all been routine stuff, like it had new rear calipers, new suspension all round and new tyres + the rear subframe has been polybushed.

its all standard stuff apart from the polys that you would do on any 10year old 100k mile car! They are galvanised so rust isnt a huge issue unless its been crashed. I think a quick scan through any service history and parts recipts would quickly tell you whether its been looked after or not.

Looks tidy for a £1k car, but check when it needs a timing belt. They are around 30,000 miles or three years (I think), being an owner's club car its probably been kept on top of but get it checked anyway.

'03-onwards would be a phase III car, with the controversial nose-job and revised engines.

Mine was a '98 and it didn't really need anything other than routine maintenance, so I'd be more inclined to buy on condition than purely on age.

Why did u get rid of the S3? and the VR6 for that matter........

But on the flipside that does look neat and tidy. Don't stack it!
