Thought this might be of interest to PH.

It's a mate of mine's project, IMO He's a bit of legend, Everything bought on a shoestring and put together in the back garden.

The car was formerly a F1000 car which he's converted to run a clio williams engine on ITB's.

Sadly it 95% complete and he's fallen out of love with it at the momen, Talking about breaking it for parts before it's finished eek

I've pretty much posted all of his pics from another forum, any words from here are his and the pics run chronologically as things progressed:

Modifications:

I also weighed my lighterned flywheel to to see how it compared to my standard flywheel

Standard

Lighterned

Trial fittied the Mad'ins with slicks (note.. coilovers need dropping) and the Mad'ins weigh in a 4.5kg without tyres

[/quote]

I added a Vinyl sticker front number plate from ebay..... saves some weight wink

I removed the passenger seat as its sold... to make way for the new front seats... coming soon :P

Some well well over due engine fiddling....

I had already given the head a coat of paint... how it looked before

I have already prepped the bottom end for paint.. So out came the black hammerite smooth... gave both sides a first coat, not pretty but better than rust brown

I also gave the head a 3rd coat of paint.... fitted my pre painted inlet manifold and thermal inlet gasket

Front end and engine stripped down ready to come out... got holes? Im just waiting on getting my jack back from a friend then i can drop it out the bottom on the subframe

3rd job was to fit the Renault cambelt kit

Now all thats left is to get a few mates around and lift the car onto the subframe... then i can really start getting stuck in.

Engine bay mid clean

Ive now got another selection of parts to paint... steering rack, hubs, calipers, strut brace and coilovers..... So much left to do haha

Brand new wishbones with poly bushes awaiting being welded

Renault Type D bright green coolent & 10mm FK spacers

Found a random VW radiator & big sheet of mesh at spring fest in the auto jumble... £10 a piece bargain

Ive got the 5 back on all four wheels again today... Fitted the following

5 GT poly'd wishbones
5 GT poly'd ARB
5 GT Driveshafts
Williams hubs
Willliams Calipers
Willliams 259mm Discs
Coilovers
Soild top mounts

No during pictures as i just got stuck in

Ive got a few bits done... hope to get alot more done over the weekend

Well the 5's at its final build location

Strut brace painted and fitted

ECU secured using old battery tray holder

And this pic because it looks evil lol

Ive pretty much sorted all the plumming today and secured the radiator in place... just got to clip it all up, fill it and order a thin air pushing fan

Drilled some holes in the front bumper to aid the air flow to the rad and to match the holes on the inside

Got the windows cut to shape yesterday and fitted them today

Tackling the fuel system and Exhaust this coming week...

Bootstrip and spoiler sprayed and fitted

Camcover painted black

Silicone hoses

Engine bay wise im almost done

Ive finally got some time spent on the 5... GOODBYE Yellow 8)

Im just waiting on more paint being mixed to finish it off and do the other side.

ive done the last bits and bats, its now ready to tow to fcs

Refurbed wheels fitted (ive spent about 2 days soild sanding the lips.. think they are anodised

Seats and matts fitted

Rest of the coolent system fitted and filled up

Cleaned up my cage and removed the stickers

Boot badges painted and fitted

The cars on clubclio stand if anyones going smile

im liking the turn around on this.

dont break it, its starting to look like a right street weapon.

i think it looks cool with those wheels and the non yellow strip.

progress wise is that where it is at the moment? (as in the pics, engine in, is it running?)

Nice project. It'd be such a shame to split it after getting so much (all the difficult) work done.

He's been working on the car since late last year, the pics make it look easy don't they!!

Not running as yet, I think it needs a re-map and a couple of other bits.

Wintstons' skills are with clio 16V's. I think the ITB's are proving too expensive/too tricky to get set up.

The other option is selling the throttle bodies, He reckons he could get it going in no time without them fitted frown

Anyone see a way of getting the engine going on the ITBs budget stylee?

Not too sure, think it's not fueling properly, i'll ask the man himself to come along and explain....

I hope that flywheel has been lightened properly, for your freinds sake, as im sure he would not like this to happen.

Atleast its a good weight saving tactic, as pieces of the flywheel will quite happlily come into the cabin for you and lop your legs off.

saw this happen to a vauxhall cavalier in a cruise at cardiff many moons ago. oh boy how i laughed.

Cant your mate put the standard injection back on with the ecu and loom and run it like that until he has enough dollar to pay for a remap and ITB setup

Was that the one where the guy and his mates smashed it up to claim on the insurance and weren't aware that the CCTV was watching them?

I never laughed so much in all my life.
