Evening guys...

Another day, another car. After selling my mk2 Golf for a reasonable price, considering it had a fair amount of work to be carried out, I set about finding another cheap car (saving for a clio V6..)

So I asked about in work and remembered a guy had a mk5 Escort RS2000 sitting doing nothing. So for just over 600 quid, it was mine. It has no MOT or TAX, however it doesnt appear to need a whole load to get it through - a brake overhaul if anything.

It is a 93 on a K plate, however it has had a private plate added at some stage. It has 102k on the clock and has had full engine rebuild within the last year. Fairly standard apart from crappy GMAX springs, a full magnex exhaust system, different front speakers, a useless pipercross filter and gash aftermarket alloys. It also has mk6 rs2000 side skirts and badges.

The immediate plans are to get the standard alloys back on (was a selling point that he had already bought a set) - standardise the suspension - genuine airbox with replacement element filer - mk5 skirts and badges - new r/o/s arch - brake upgrade all round and a very good clean.

It is a mini rolling project however the car appears solid and includes a full service history and even the original bill of sale..

here are a few very crappy phone pics

And to improve I can take a half decent picture.. i hope to give it a proper road test in the North West Higlands very soon!

Look's like you got yourself a good buy there!! will look better with the standard wheels though, the rs2000's were always better made than the boggo escorts even so not many about full stop these days should be a good project for you

Got the car today... A bit more expected to pass the MOT - brakes all round, bits of welding to the floor etc..

As soon as I got it back I put the standard alloys back on. They need a refurb however its getting there already i feel.

Good luck with it.

I've been tempted a couple of times when they've come up at Classic Auctions, but been put off by the oversized rims and exhausts they seem to attract.

You seem really against any mods on the car, they didn't seem to excessive to me i would have thought the pipercross and gmax springs would have been an improvement over standard each to his own though. didn't they do a 4x4 version too?

I always liked those.

You're right about the springs - it looks too low and they probably haven't done the ride any favours.

The fitting of those skirts is shocking! - I'd be wanting to take them off for a look underneath ASAP.

(Alfa did a similar job with 75 bodykits - although they used neat rows of rivets - the result was the same, though - rust starting around the holes, eventually leading to sills which were more rust and plastic than metal.)

I think the 4x4 was only mk6.

Good job on the restore!

I seem to remember my mate had a 4x4 on an L plate, which I think was a Mk5. I'm happy to be proven wrong though.

That could be a nice looking car you have there mate.

if he does it could be a very reliable engine. i have a galaxy with the 2.3 engine on 194000 miles. only ever had to have a couple of water pumps and the cam chains done once. original clutch and gearbox too.
