My Ferrari 360 Spider
Discussion

Well, after one of the best and most stress free experiences with a Dealer ever I've just taken delivery of this. I love it when a Dealer does what they say they will do and is totally transparent about the whole thing. It makes everything much simpler all round.
Rosso / Crema with subtle red contrast stitching, 6 speed manual, factory challenge grills at the front and rear, factory fitted scuderia shields on the wings, factory 6 disc cd-changer in the luggage compartment, original tool box and leather case, full service history with all invoices, documentation and paperwork. One previous owner, who had a few other Ferrari's in his collection, and as expected it is in immaculate condition.
I've already had a Capristo Exhaust fitted to it at the Dealer prior to collection. Fantastic howl at high revs now. Happy days.

The black rear grill is called a Challenge Grill and is perforated metal. It was an option on all 360s when speced new but they sometimes appear on eBay for £1000 to £1500ish. On a practical level they help with cooling which is helpful with a non-standard sports exhaust but I agree it also gives the rear of the car a more agressive look.

Very nice but i did prefer your 355 gtb. Is there much difference between them in terms of power and how nice to drive?
Hmmmm. Definately yes.Someone far clever than me said that the 360 is the better car and the 355 is the better Ferrari. IMHO that is probably pretty accurate. The 360 is more modern and in most respects a huge leap forward in useability. In the 355 I always had the underlying feeling of relief when I got home safely with nothing broken or needing seen to after every time I gave it a bit of a blast. Thats a bit unfair on the car since it was perfect in the near 3 years I owned it, but I was always aware that I was in an exotic Italian supercar, with its' own little quirks and that there was a potential big bill around every corner of with every "funny" noise or squeek. I wouldn't say the 360 feels less supercar like, it just feels less likely to be temperamental. I can apprecate why a few folk use a 360 as an everyday car since there is a warm feeling that it is all nailed together well.
In terms of looks, I think the 355 Berlinetta is up there with the prettiest Ferraris ever, although I never did like the 355 Spider with the roof up. I don't think I really like the 360 shape nearly so much if I were being honest. However, I think the Spider looks really classy with the roof down. I don't think that there are many convertibles which look so good with the roof up but the 360 Spider is one of the best of the bunch so I won't hold that against it. I think if I had a 360 Modena I would always be comparing it to the 355 Berlinetta and I don't think the 360 would come out ahead. Part of the reason for getting the Spider was to move on to a different playing field.
Performance wise, I think the 360 is just more exploitable, probably because it is just easier to drive so you feel more comfortable pushing it a bit. In all honesty both the 355 and 360 performance limits are way beyond my driving ability anyhow. The 355 had a tubi and decat exhaust, the 360 has the Capristo L2 exhaust and both of them sound sublime.
I also have an Evo VI TME with big exhaust, decat, 380ish BHP and all the go-faster stuff and as a means for getting from A to B on the road very quickly then in most folks hands it would beat both the 355 and 360 comfortably, but it is a bit like comparing a Microwave Dinner with a Gourmet Meal

Thanks for that i am thinking about a 355 in the future and agree a fast scooby or evo is a easy car to drive hard (had a 300bhp scooby) same as my tvr i dont have the skill either to push it any where near its limits i just love the whole 355 thing its my dream car its more the feeling they give you like you say. still a stunning fezza happy motoring
Some updated pics.
Almost 5 years of ownership and a whole 9k miles added, bringing the grand total up to 12k (yeah, I know it is a bit embarrassing) On the other hand, even as one of these so called "garage queens" it has been 100% reliable and been serviced on the dot every year with no issues.
I've added original Ferrari 19 inch F360 Challenge Alloys and had the Challenge Stradale side skirts and front bumper added to give a more aggressive look. The original parts are all safely stored so the car can revert to standard if required but the CS look makes it far more modern and sharp.

Given the fact the values on these are heading up,I would be interested to know what the depreciation has been like over the 5 years?
Hmmm. Good question. Not too sure where values are at the moment.
I was a bit anal about wanting a manual car with a desirable colour combo and getting a good spec (factory shields, factory Challenge grills front and rear, red calipers etc) so it would help retain the value as best it could.
Adding the Capristo exhaust, 200 cell sports cats, CS alloys, CS bumper, CS sills etc makes it a bit more individual to me, but the original alloys, exhaust, cats, bumper and sills are all neatly stored away anyhow so it can revert back to original if needs be.
It has been fully serviced every year from new, irrespective of mileage so even with only 12k miles it has 12 stamps in the book and also every receipt and invoice from new.
So, I guess it would be a "premium car" and valued in the top half of whatever they go for at the moment. I bought in 2009 at £58k... might have been £57,500... can't remember if I haggled successfully.. so the answer is that it probably hasn't done too badly
... as long as you ignore fuel, insurance, servicing costs and all the other stuff that ruin proper man-maths

Just realised it's 9 years since I bought my 360 Spider so thought it deserved a photo-update.
The first owner managed a whole 3k miles in it so as the 2nd owner I guess I shouldn't feel too embarrassed having just broken through the 17k mile mark this week. It's given me no grief whatsoever, has been serviced every 12 months irrespective of mileage and next year will be having its 5th cambelt service.
