Right oh then chaps, expecting some stick for this perhaps, but here goes...

Soon I will be selling one of the MG Midgets, and will hopefuly have between 4 and 5 grand available.

First purchase will be a Mk1 MR2 'for the Mrs' - say about 2 to 2.5 grand. She has clear list of wants:- Quickish(for her...), 2 seats, power steering, leccy windows, pop-up lights(!). Plus I have always wanted one.

But not sure what to get myself. Want something roomy for two - need to be able to sleep in car (no, not for ya smutty gits) but don't need 4 seats. Should have a decent size boot. Needs to be relatively quick, RWD or 4WD, good for long distances (but mpg not important). But most of all want something a little different. And faster is better

So far thinking of a Nissan 200SX. Also on list XR4x4, BMW 325 (Touring?), Celica GT4, Supra 3.0

I know its not much cash (saving for wedding as well), but any other ideas? Throw anything in...

EDIT: I know type AW11 MR2s don't have power steering, but she will never notice :-)

Cheers, Phil

Go for the 325i Touring E30 model, cheap, quiet for long motorway runs, sleep in the back if you want to.
Still has loads of poke, it would probably keep up with my TVR S1.

Check my profile I hope to add a picture soon

OK JSG, where do we make the exchange?

What year/spec is the MR2?

Afraid the Fiancee doesn't come with a warranty, and I can't guarantee the mileage either...

(Dammit I hope she doesn't read this...I daren't even bring up the number of previous owners )

As regards the 325 Touring - Anybody notice any nasty attitudes directed at drivers of older 3 series?

Cheers, Phil

A Pistonheads sticker in the rear window would solve that

Carlton GSI, quick RWD, good handling for a tank, lots of space.

How about a Porsche 944? Thats what i'm after. It's a 2+2 is RWD and has pop-up lights The standard 2.5 is fairly quick (0-60: 7.4 secs, Top Speed 137mph) and its economical too. My uncle bought an '83 Y reg 944 a few years ago and it's in overall good condition (except the interior looks a bit tired) I think he paid about £1800 for it!
