My new C30 R-design T5... A young man's Volvo
Discussion
Hi everyone
Long time reader here, finally decided to make a post.
At 22 i never thought i'd get excited over a Volvo, let alone purchase one.
I've had my C30 a few days now and could not be happier with my decision of this over an A3 s-line.
It's certainly generating a lot of looks/interest everywhere i've taken it:

Thanks Catherine, initially when i picked the car up from the dealers i was a little concerned by this too. As the brakes were not at all as i remembered the car i test drove to have. In fact i got a rather unpleasant shock at just how long it took to stop at some lights and how close i got to the rear of the car in front.
After a couple of hours driving though they wore in just fine and are perfect now.

Well done for chosing something individual. The design, performance and looks are all fantastic and at 22, you're a lucky lad!
The Volvo 5-cyclinder lumps are great. I had the diesel variant in an S40 for a few months and grew to love it in most ways.
Tell us, does your C30 have strut braces? The D5 R-Design did and cornered much flatter than my Golf 170tdi.
How is the T5 on acceleration?

Very nice car.
Yes, the car I drove was a 2.0D. The performance of the car was surprisingly good for only circa 135 bhp, but and it was a big but I had concerns that the brakes were not up to the job. I remember doing an emergancy stop on a quiet long stretch of country road and it took far too long to stop. Mind you the Honda Civic we bought instead is better but not much. My company Astra which overall is a cr&p car has brakes which are very sharp.CatherineJ said:
Very nice, but can I ask how you find the brakes on the C30? We had a test drive in one before buying the Civic and we found the brakes to be very under servo'd.
I found the pedal to be quite sloppy, if I didn't know any better I'd have bled the brakes.CatherineJ said:

Like the guy above said, it could do with being a bit closer to terra firma but the best volvo in a long time IMHO.
