I'm selling my Golf GTI and have already got it's replacement. I'm afraid to say I bought it not for its performance, handling, looks or image but......price and economy. Now there is a method in this, I do a lot of delivering around town and am leaving the country in November so need to start saving. Also I needed to move house at short notice and needed a big boot. Anyway, I present my runaround

Electric windows, remote central locking, power steering, cruise control, air con......just a few of the things this car hasn't got. Now despite being a crap colour and having a back end so ugly it would make baby Jesus cry, I have to say it's not actually that bad. Not great obviously, but for a 1.4 it goes and corners surprisingly well. Certainly better to drive than an Astra or Escort of the same vintage..........

So can I get a PH badge (not the speed matters one obviously) or is that really stretching it?

Good choice, nothing on your previous car mind.

My mum had one of these for a numbers of years, although was the 1.6l, and was very reliable. It's more a 'A to B' car than anything else.

Pity you couldn't find the VZ-R version, they go quite well really.

Seriously though, I can imagine the GTI version being a right bag of laughs. Plus, I have the nice experience of parking in a supermarket and not actually giving a toss if someone dings the door!
