After 2 years of ‘fun’ motoring in a FIAT Barchetta I have had to change from the ridiculous to the sublime – a Volvo V70.

FIAT was GREAT fun, looked fantastic and went like a scalded kitten but was not cutting it on long trips and was not ideal with 2 kids!

I bought the Volvo on Monday this week for 3k - chuffed to bits with it! It is a 2.4 170bph V70 SE, 80k with one owner from new (friend of mine) and full Volvo service history. It is not as quick off the mark as I am used to but does have bags of torque, also surprisingly handles more like a hatchback than a barge sized estate. Plan is to sell the Barchetta, stick the money in the bank and buy a TVR of some sort next winter.

It needed a bit of cleaning (12 hours worth) but has come up quite nicely; here are a few before and after piccies;

Hmm, how reliable are Volvos? I quite fancy one!

Nice barge. Had one myself before an XC90.
Missus has an XC70.

Unless something has changed, Volvo are one of the best manufacturers for reliability. Heck, the highest mileage car in the world is a Volvo with over 2.5 million miles and still a large number of original components!

To the OP: Lovely looking car there - looks a cracker after the clean!

Handbrake instead hehe

...Anyone else that would find that pretty weird looking? Car not much shorter than an average sized oil tanker turning on a six pence smile?

if its anything like our company hack 2005 D5 Sport AWD it will have the turning circle of said ship. it hasnt been massively reliable either but then it doesnt get treated with too much TLC!!

Hmmm, finding the turning circle is more of a turning triangle! Parked in the riverside car park in Reading yesterday and swear that the front and rear were only about 1mm from the wall going down the ramp! I have not tried the handbrake approach - yet!
