Here she is.. My first car and still love it to bits, as basic as they come but goes like the clappers for a 1.2 since a strong breeze will push it over smile(No power steering, ABS, central locking or anything like that to weigh it down)

Early 2000 Renault Clio 1.2 Liberé in metallic blue, 3 previous owners, 65k on the clock when I bought her (75k now.. passed in Feb driving) planning to keep it all stock (aside from the Alloys which are genuine Renault anyway - bought them to replace the crummy ones that were on it, adorned with Mazda wheel trims!) , then sell on or trade in for something a bit bigger next year!

In fairly good condition apart from the interior plastics are disintegrating and I made the mistake of buying second hand alloys off fleabay - Kerbed delight! Never had any mechanical faults from when it rolled off the production line according to the service history... Not bad for a 9 year old Frenchie wink

Anyway - Here she is.. Only got the one pic since my 'rents and sister are away and had the cheek to take their cameras with them!

Hehe thanks biggrin Furthest afield I've been in it was only Durham (I live near Blackpool) but I still do a lot of driving just for pleasure, can't wait to get a quicker car!

Take it easy. I had a fairly big bump 4 months after I passed. You don't need anything quicker yet!

  • Parent mode off*

I don't drive particularly quick, simply because I know the limitations of both myself and my car. It would just be nice to have something with the power to get past the odd bit of slow moving traffic, and be a competent motorway cruiser smile

I was expecting my parents to be a bit "You're not getting anything bigger" but my mum is actually saying "so and so have some nice deals on at the moment"

I was thinking of getting a 2.0TDI Leon or 1.9CDTi Astra (Zomg diesel!!11eleven) and a Defender that I would love to set up as off-road spec. Though I would like something capable of towing a defender.

Thanks! And oucn at the mpg hehe, I worked out I got about 45mpg out of the Clio when driving normally, about 35 when driving like a bat out of hell and 40 cruising at 70-80 on the motorway.

Your cruising MPG is about the same as me, I get nearly 40 mpg out of it, but around town just drinks fuel. Worth it though, enjoy the car mate.

I wouldn't mind changing car because of the 'image' that goes with a 17 year old male in a Clio - Just been to Asda at 11pm to get some cat food since my 3 are driving me round the bend and on the way back there was an Impreza (Badged up as WRX STI but judging from the age of the driver and his cronies I would guess at a 2.0L non turbo - Didn't sound like it had a turbo on it)who was overtaking me on a national speed limit road (I was doing 60) and he was there driving alongside and squeezing the throttle (10" exhaust 'maaaateee')and backing off to stay alongside trying to get me to race... I mean seriously - What do these people hope to gain from challenging a near 10 year old 1.2L car to a race??

You won't get insurance for a Leon or Astra, it's expensive enough for my 1.4 big-bum Megane. Defenders... I'm also curious and would love one, but for about £4k, the best I can do is a 95,000mi 1995 90 County Commercial... On a side note, does the drivers seat move any further back once into the 110s?

You will get insured on the Leon and the Astra. Okay it might be expensive but it shouldn't be that bad. Last time I checked it was about 1700.

The insurance won't be too bad next year - using admiral multicar to insure all 3 cars that will be at our address it'll be under £2000 - But that's for all 3. Obviously most of that will be because of me, but my mums and dad have agreed they'll pay a decent chunk of it (even though there insurance is nowhere near that, even between them - Dad has a 1.4 206 and mum has a 1.6 Qashqai)

Fuel wise.. waaaay too much - the £35 I get from my Sunday job normally goes on it and some of my savings. Backing off a bit atm as I can't keep this up as it'll empty my bank account fairly sharpish.

I'm 17 (18 in September) and the insurance is £1100 - Though it should be more than that but as my dad used it for the few months we had it and I was still learning, it was originally insured in his name and he changed it/added me (don't know which) and between us we paid the difference for my Xmas/Birthday. Unfortunately this means that I don't get any no claims for the first year.

I have just been looking at quotes and saying I have Pass Plus seems to make barely, if any, difference - luckily it only cost £40 - being the instructors guinea pig did have its good points smile

I know it may seem silly but my car is one of my favourite things in life - So i'm not all too upset about spending the extra!

I was wondering - What sort of mpg do people get in 2.5TDI Defender 90's?

LOL!

Looks like a decent first car. Prefer more retro myself when it comes to quick cars - I started off with a Renault 5 GT Turbo lookalike, then after a years driving bought a proper GT Turbo. Awesome cars biggrin

Lovely Clio, always liked Clio's TBH and that looks in very good shape!

Finally some younger common sense!! So little of that about nowadays, it's nice to hear some fellow voices!!

I am in the same boat as you, though I passed almost 18 months ago now, (again done a fair few miles, funds allowing!) and can't wait to buy a MINI at the end of the year - Just has the nice extra shove when you want it without you driving it crazy and getting into big trouble! I don't think the Fiesta is fast enough to get me into trouble anyway hehe

And on the Defender front, check my profile thumbup Always wanted one, and was originally going to get one to replace the Fiesta, but this was too good to refuse and I bought it almost a year early - Best car ever! biggrinbiggrinbiggrin
