This is my latest project. The first classic I've ever bought needing work and an MOT!
It really looked great in the ebay pictures, but on closer inspection it turned out the front of the nearside sill was pretty crusty. I think a bit of fresh plate will get the beast through it's MOT, and then I can start fiddling
This is 'Rex' on the morning of collection. You can also see my old man getting harassed by a local bloke who really had no right to be that cheerful at that time of the morning!
The paintwork is in pretty good nick, the engine starts on the button and doesn't make any horrible noises. No smoke etc. It does need a bloody good service though!
So the first task is to get it on the road. It's booked in for Wednesday for some MOT prep at our local auto electrician, who is going to wire up the indicators, and check everything else. It needs that small patch of welding and then it's going for it's test.
Once back on the road, i'll be giving Rex a full service, including setting up the carbs properly.
Hope you like him

That looks really nice, top work chap
Cheers mate,All for £1800 as well. Little chap needs quite a lot of interior trim, but I was toying with the idea of a slightly stripped out interior anyway - period racer look.
It looks as if the suspension has been lowered as well, and a nice new set of 15" minilites have been fitted. I have no idea if the shocks have been uprated. I'm hoping to fiddle with the suspension anyway and see if I can get a bit more oomph from the engine
Fancy a proper sebring front and rear valance too, rather than the bumpers off look.

Always fancied doing something similar with a Midget
I spent last night checking the car over for things it needs. The bloke that was supposed to be welding the chassis didn't turn up, so although that's still a priority, the update will have to wait until someone has had a proper look at it.
I would imagine it needs a little bit more than just the front sill repair, although I had a bloody good poke around with a screwdriver and it was the only weak point I found. All around the spring mountings, the floors, sills, wheelarches etc were really good. Some surface rust and flakey underseal but nice strong metal
To Do
Service Engine - Carbs, Oil, Filters, spark plugs, HT Leads, New coil and contacts
Service Brakes - check fluid, master cylinder, slave cylinder, hoses, discs and drums
Check Shock absorbers and quality of springs - Consider stiffer anti-roll bar
Wiring Check - Make indicators work
Transmission - Service gearbox, linkages, check clutch and overdrive, Check Prop and Diff
Check Cooling System - Radiator, Thermostat, Fan operation. Change coolant
Clean and repaint engine bay
Check Wheel bearings
Source Bumper Irons and refit front bumper or sebring valance (requires paint)
Re-mount Number Plate
Replace fresh Air Duct
Replace dented mirrors with bullet mirrors
De-rust and repaint roof channels
Source and Fit chrome finisher for roof rails
Bubbles on rear valance, replace with OEM or Sebring valance
Re-attach chrome finisher
Service Door Locks and Hinges
Paint/chrome door latches
Remove and repaint dashboard
Test and Label switches
Clean and Service heating and fresh air system
Fit CD/MP3 player and speakers with ipod connection
Remove seats and carpets
Check floor, repaint and soundproof
Refit carpets
Refit seats, servicing runners
Source sun visors.
Source rear panels for interior. Do they need roll top finishers?
Check fitment of trim around inside of rear hatch and headlining. Resolve as necessary
Repaint interior mirror mounting
Source Drivers side door pull
Sports Exhaust system, along with new jets for carbs
A fking good clean!
SUPERCHARGER!!!

I remember watching a TV program called "An MG Is Born" about the restoration (and slight engine tuning) of an MGB, You can buy a copy from Amazon, It's a really good watch, not at all boring
