My New Retro German
Discussion
Since new year I've been running around in a E46 Imola Red 330i sport touring as my daily driver. A great car and nice and practical for a new dad Then my wife went and got a CRV so it seemed a bit daft having two large (ish) family cars. Since I only do about 50 miles per week I decided I'd chop the E46 for something a bit more fun, and cheaper. So today I picked up this E30 325i sport (tech 2) in rare "Granite Silver".
It cruises well on the motorway and is surprisingly quick accelerating in 4th and 5th at motorway speeds. Coming back home I travelled on the A41 from Cosford to Chester and it was great fun in the twisties. The straight six sounds fantastic at 4K+ revs
There's a few bits of interior trim to sort out and some tiny bits of bodywork need attention but overall it feels like a good, straight original car. No-one go suggesting Alpina reps or a suspension drop
Anyhoo, here's a few rough and ready pics after the journey home.
And if anyone wants a good looking, fast and practical car, have a look in the classified for this

That would look great sitting on a set of 17" Alpinas and a 40mm drop.

Looks lovely ... I've been thinking about one of these for a while {Ive got a 325i Touring atm].
How much did you pay if you don't mind saying?
Enough change from £4K for a few pints. There are cheaper ones out there I know but I wanted a standard car and didn't want too much work to do. Time will tell but I looks OK for now How much did you pay if you don't mind saying?

If you want to keep it I would recommend the removal of all the body kit / bumpers / wheel arch liners and interior carpet.
All the clips and bits for re-installation are still available from BMW.
Yeah, I've read about the nastiness that can lurk under the body kit on E30 Zone. Hopefully I wont find anything horrible. All the clips and bits for re-installation are still available from BMW.

awesome cars, I love E30s - so much fun to hung the arse out and drift them
keep it standard, they're getting harder and harder to find these days
Definitely keeping it all standard. I don't think there was one standard one in the PH classifieds over the last few weeks. Mine has an aftermarket stainless steel back box but it's not noisy or too big so I'll leave it on.keep it standard, they're getting harder and harder to find these days

I love these and might even have a look for one myself.
Yours looks fabulous in that colour.
Enjoy!
Cheers. Granite Silver is quite rare from what I've read. It was a new colour for '91 on the incoming four door E36. It was a special order on the E30 so not that many about I think. It's like Dolphin Grey, which is also a lovely colour but a little darker.Yours looks fabulous in that colour.
Enjoy!
Just read your profile BTW - you don't look like you need any more cars

Ive been looking for one for a while now where did you find it?
May end up importing one if possible in shadowline form.
I got it from http://www.oldcolonelcars.co.uk/May end up importing one if possible in shadowline form.
Maybe not the cheapest but he does seem to get nice examples of old Bimmers. I guess by hunting around you could find something similar for cheaper but it seems pretty hard to find original cars in Autotrader, PH classifieds etc.
I've had lots of these and i have to say they are my favourite 80's classic. this one especially looks mint. here is one of mine, the other 3 I had are on poop photopaper : as said some aplinas or personally bbs splits would make this into a proper stunner.

ahhh the memories.... i had a 325SE with Mtech b'kit then got myself a real 325sport in diamond black, when i bought it, had been unfortunatly gary'd but after i put standard wheels back on it looked the part. i have to agree with your comment about noise... i bought my current VR6 thinking it would be as good.. but its just not anywhere near as smooth!!
