Had a few comments at work of late about my Yankee 'gas guzzler' not able to hold its own with newer cars, so we've been trying it out and keeping a check on the mpg etc..

I live in the country with a practically empty 9 mile 'B' road to commute back and forth to work on. It has lovely corners and nice long straight bits to enjoy the vette on. My nephew has an EVO6 and I know I can stay with him (..in the dry at least!) so I know it handles ok (..new shox this year helps).

Driving steadily and observing the speed limits, no sudden acceleration or braking, keeping the roof on, windows shut, no spare or jack etc, keeping all electrics to a minimum and with air in the tyres for a change (hurts the handling but should help mpg), but burdened with a full tank at the start, I observed between 28 & 29 on the computer at the end of each 13mile trip. Multiplying by 1.2 as its US gallons indicated, equates to about 34.2mpg. Using my calculator after 250 miles (half tank!) and filling back to the neck of the tank again, I get 33.9mpg.

Trying for the 0-60 times, (downwind each time!) over four runs, two up on a flat level road, the vette gave a nice (auto shifting) 6.1sec & 5.9sec. Manually shifting saw 5.8secs for both runs.

The rear tyres are 295/50x16 BFG's which are about 4cm taller than the old 255's. With the 255's (Kumho's), they would just go up in smoke trying this stuff even in the dry, but the BFG's tend to hold on better probably due to the size, but they are lethal in the wet (...still fun though, if you can drive rwd).

All things considered, its not bad for a 3200lb, 22year old car with 96k miles on it... smokin

Nice.

I've managed 30mpg out of my 8 litre V10 wink Having satisfied myself that it is attainable, I haven't bothered trying again wink
