So why a Boxster?

In the past I have had several small convertible cars including 4 MX5's which I absolutely love (just always wanted more power). I also have recently been doing trackdays and last year bought and modified an E36 M3 for this purpose. The M3 stood about doing nothing, my wife decided that she liked my daily driver more than hers and I was left tooling around in an 07 Fiesta.

It didn't make sense to keep the M3 just for track days so I decided to get a car which I could use day to day and track occassionally (unlikely I will get to do more than 3 trackdays this year).

Besides I had always wanted a Boxster and so it is an itch I had to scratch (probably the real justification)

Not a huge spec car but after travelling 1000 miles looking at them this was in superb condition and was definitely a cherished car.

Pictures are a mixture of the advert ones and mine own (taken on a dull day unfortunately):

I really like that. Do like the look of the Boxster and it certainly looks in very good condition. I think i'll be looking for something like this in a couple of years time, and it definitely looks the part.

Nice find. Love it in black, looks very sleek with the top down.

lovely looking car, a good friend of mine looking for similar spec, do you mind me asking a vague ballpark on what they are actually selling for at the moment?

Looks excellent, the wife wants us to swap all of our cars (s14a/Mx5) for one before the end of year- aiming for spec and colour just like yours.

Enjoy.

That could be my car! Mine's identical, 2003 986S, revision too, black on black with 18" Carreras!

What spec have you got on it? I've got the BOSE upgrade, PSM, heated memory seats, wind break, aluminium pack and god knows what else. I dread to think what the list price was.

I have had 3 TVRs and 2 Loti in the past and always looked down on the Boxster. A few years later and I tired of having an impractical car for fun and a boring car for the daily grind and the Porker made the obvious choice for combined useage. I'm really enjoying it. A useable, practical sports car. The only downside I have found is that everyone seemingly feels the need to tell me the inadequacies of the Boxster, and pointing out its not a 911! I drove a 996 back to back with mine (they were the same price bar £1000) before choosing the 986S....

here's the advert picture from when I bought mine last year.

I must admin i have been apart of the 'its not a 911' bandwagon.. probably because most boxter/s drivers i seem to come across usually have a pretty lady in the car next to them and seem to enjoy a squirt of the throttle next to the likes of my ax, or a friends R5 GTT then they cant pull away from us, then in a rage they typically seem to feel the urge to overtake in a 30 zone, or undertake on a roundabout or something like idiots... thats from my experience anyway. Hence why i have a tendency to knock them down a few pegs. =[

Car looks very flat & shiny though mate. Nice paintwork =]
Cant say i wouldnt have one dont get me wrong lol, Must be nice to have a nice car without a roof for summer!

I imagine that's quite tiresome. My old man had a Boxster S which he's since replaced with a Cayman - and people really cannot help themselves to point out it's "not a 911" rolleyes

I must admit, I used to be a bit of a boxster basher (ok ok, only a bit!!) until i borrowed my mums 2.7 for the weekend in Wales, bloody brilliant cars.

I confess to being one myself in the past. They are a cliche on wheels. Thankfully I removed the blinkers enough to test drive one.

People used to slag the MX-5 off as a hairdresser's car, and I think that has mostly stopped now. (Since the TT fell into their price range I guess!) I think Boxsters are going to go the same way, falling from the hands of the poseurs who bought them into proper enthusiasts hands. Which can only be a good thing.

Great looking car mate....you'll really enjoy it.

I must be a double 'ard hairdresser then having both a Boxster S and a new MX5

Thanks very much. I looked at a few combinations but always wanted black with black.

The market is very funny at the moment. Mine is a facelift and they seem to start from 12k+ (pre facelift S's from 9k). Some are still asking ridiculous prices 19k+ but you can pick upa 987 S for around 18k mark now.

You won't regret it (I think). As i said above I am huge fan of MX5's. Never been in an S14a although looked quite intensely at them at one point for a track car. Massive tuning potential though. Not the case with the Boxster AFAIK

Spec wise mine isn't massive. It has BOSE, PSM, windblocker but that is abuot it. Ideally I wanted heated sports seats but as with any second car purchase sometimes you have to compromise. And they can be retrofitted.

To respond the the other posts I agree that there is a potential image problem. I got abuse on my second journey (from 3 guys in their Corsa) but TBH i don't care. As mentioned the MX5 had similar issues but I loved them. Enthusiasts recognise it for what it is, an excellent little sports car not just a poor man's 911.

At the end of the day fk it...I'm happy

The facelift S's are 260bhp and I would describe them as brisk rather than out and out fast. Modern hot hatches would keep up in a straight line but the Boxster is about the package...much like an MX5 ( I keep comparing to an MX5 but i think the two cars are very similar is many ways)

Had a broadley similar dilema myself earlier in the year. Looked at getting a boxster S but caved in to the lure of the ///M badge and got a Z4MR. Ultimately a very similar proposition but I do have a definite soft spot for the boxster. Must admit in my younger less knowledgeable days I probably would have been in the "poor mans 911 crowd" but thats bks really usually coming from folk that couldnt afford either.

After seeing that acceleration table of modern hot hatches in GG, even the first generation Boxster S is a good bit quicker than all of them - bar the Audi S3.
