Ok then, I've had reservations on creating a thread about my car as whatever i do to it people seem to disagree, but after a rather....'interesting' thread recently people have suggested i start a thread here. So, here goes.
In April 2008 I started learning to drive, And then in May i got myself my first car.
It is a 1998 MK3 VW golf 1.6 GL. It had 58k on the clock and cost me £2600 (to much money i know, but obviously parents being parents said it was a good car and i should get it... so i did)
This is how it started life.
After i got it my friend who is a member on here (coleo) told me about the MK3 VR6, and after looking at them and reading about them I really grew to like the car.
I decided as i couldnt have a VR6 due to age, experience and insurance i would modify the looks of the golf.
So I put in some smoked lights from a GTi that i picked up for £30 from the local scrap yard.
At the same time my friend suggested a detango so whilst at the scrappy i picked up some clear indicators and side repeaters for 8quid all in.
I then felt that the back of the car looked a bit bland, and after some careful consideration decided to purchase a bootlid spoiler off of a GTi which cost £10 (£18 if you include the cost of adhesive)
and i then went about fitting that myself
this was all done before i passed my test.
Luckily i passed first time in November.
The car stayed relatively untouched between then and now with the excesption of fitting a K&N panel filter.
I've always felt that the Wheels really let down the car, So I recently managed to persuade my parents to get me a new set of wheels for my birthday.
And for £280 these bad boys were purchased.
They are due to arrive either Thursday of Friday this week.
They will also need some PCD adapters to fit but that will only be a short term solution.
Further plans for the car include
Bilstien B14 Coilover kit,
Stiffer Wietec ARB's
Toyo T1-R tires
brake upgrade
Comments welcome

Subtle mods is good. Not a big fan of taking a basic car and throwing lots of money at it to make it decent, though. Would rather save up and buy something better.
Are you selling those old wheels, btw? Wonder if they'll fit my 1.8 Cabrioghey.
yeah i'll sell them, make me an offer and then add 30 for postage, unless your local, then you can collect if you wishAre you selling those old wheels, btw? Wonder if they'll fit my 1.8 Cabrioghey.
the wheels are a 14x6j, ET45 will fit most other 4x100PCD cars.

They are in pretty good condition with the exception of some kerbiing (owned by an old biddy before me) and one dent in the lip of the fron NS wheel where ice caused me to have an alertcation with a kerb, Wheel in question does not leak air and is not buckled or cracked and was fully inspected after said altercation.
At a pure guess i'd say maybe 90-100, but that is just pure guess work
after some research, they are the Orlando alloy wheels, Size 6jx14 ET 45 ebay brings up the Imola alloy wheels, but not the Orlando, and the imolas seem to have starting bids of £80

Given the spec you have said regarding what bits you want for it i.e suspension etc....
Why do you want all the most expensive kit such as the Bilsteins and the ARB's?
Without wanting to sound offensive mk3 golfs just don't handle that well so even with all the mods on it still won't be a patch on a 'decent' handling car. Which you could probably afford if you saved up for a while and didn't do all the mods.
Also with the price of VR's now it really wouldn't be worth doing the engine transplant and same goes for the 20V. The mk3's tend to be the least desirable of all the golfs so selling on a 1.8T one for decent money after you have ploughed all your money into it wouldnt be easy.
Thats why I have 2 cars, one everyday that handles and goes well enough and one light fast car that is the fun one that doesn't cost much money.
For example my 205 probably cost me less than half of what your engine conversion would be (especially a 20V) and yet on a track would be quite a bit quicker unless you spend ££'s turnig it into a track car!!
I'm not saying that in the sense that my car is better than your car but purely from a financial sense in terms of what you would be spending on your golf tyring to turn it into something it isnt!
By all means spend the money on it for the 'looks' department i.e lowering but spending all that on the engine and handling just isn't worth it imo...
But each to their own etc!!

Thanks. I keep thinking about those cross-spoke BBSs you're putting on and now I want those instead!! At a pure guess i'd say maybe 90-100, but that is just pure guess work

its shame you missed out, 280 quid delivered from germany!!!! As i said in the other thread, when i saw them i came to the conclusion that for that money it would have been rude not to buy them.
just type 'BBS Wheels' into ebay, and you'll be surprised what comes up, theres some genuine LM's going for 700!!!!!

PCD adapters are due to arrive in the next 2 days, Front and rear strut braces are in a basket ready to be ordered depening on how fitting my mates goes tomorrow, and a new backbox and fittings are also in a basket ready for order.
My current backbox has rusted through at the back so i may well order a 'sports' back box. 3" exit, so only 1 inch bigger than my current pipe so hopefully wont look out of place.
so watch this space over the next week as there will be some changes.

So then, Strut braces were aquired today, Rear fit perfectly, Front..no dice. As i have aircon the pipework gets in the way, so i need a different strutbrace. Luckily a few manufacturers do them E-Tech being the most likely to work properly. So its off I go to get a new E-Tech front upper strut brace.
PCD adapters due tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have my new wheels on by tomorrow evening.
Will get some pictures up tomorrow once all the works been done.
