New RX-8 Owner
Discussion
So after 20 months or so of thoroughly enjoyable ST ownership, house deposit beckons and it's time to move on
However, thanks to the recession, some pretty tasty treats were happily within reach. After a few weeks of looking around, and checking insurance, I've landed myself a 2004 Mazda RX-8
It's the hi-power (231ps) version in a rather fetching shade of mid-aged crisis red! It's basically got every option box ticked with the exception of sat-nav (doesnt fuss me!) including the mazda body kit (front and side extensions).
It's massively different to drive than the ST. Rear-wheel drive, sod all torque and 9000rpm mix things up a bit! Still likes a drink though!

Very nice I like the colour too. There's a dark metallic red one in my area and, imo, doesn't suit the car very well unlike the shade you've gone for.
I've got a (common lol) Winning Blue high-power and am still quite enjoying it 5months in. I considered changing it last week but couldn't think of anything as fun/practical for the same money!

First thing I'd do is an LPG conversion! Nice though. Its on my automotive to do list.
Don't think you can.....fairly sure Mazda don't recommend LPGing the rotary. Can anyone confirm?Try the Mazda Rotary Club forums for help and info.

Are these in the 400 quid tax band?
Shouldn't be as it's pre-2005 when they started to up the tax bands.Nice car, I did consider one when they first came out, however, after reading about the fuel and oil economy, I decided I'd get better mpg from my 6.1L Hemi!
Safe driving.
Stef
very nice!
evo magazine have just taken one of these (2009 pz model?) on as a longtermer,i was gutted for the guy whos running it tho,
with a steady right foot best he could get was 20 mpg,and the last report had him filling up with £25 worth of oil after a months use lol
like a ongoing service i guess.....
love the pics buddy!

That's insane, £25 of oil lasts my RX-8 about 6000 miles. The R3 has some changes to the oil metering strategy and an extra oil injector adding oil at the centre of the rotor (the MKI car has two, adding oil at either edge). Seems unlikely that would account for such a big increase though. Metering is dependent on how the car is driven, maybe he has spontaneously combusting hair?Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
