This?...should stay standard.
Seriously not worth the hassle for a few seconds. I know its your first car and yes i was exactly the same wanting to do a eurolook mk3 polo but even i saw not worth it .Its just constructive critisism im not being harsh but you can easily wait, save money then get something better in the future
Very good if it were free I guess. Heres my mk 1 wreck (with added trailer because I cant be arsed finding another picture)
Had it for over 4 years now, was (is) my first car. Never put a foot wrong (much) and does all I could ask of it. Well except for going fast I guess
Never planned on doing anything to it except maintaining it. Hardly worth the outlay for little gain, and to be honest I like it the way its. I'd say the same for the as advice for the OP.

I'd say do a few things to it, don't go crazy just improve the look slightly. Like you said, body coloured STANDARD bumpers, Fiat alloys and it'll look a lot better.
Go to the scrapy and pillage a mk1 SportThings to get
Wheels
Sideskirts
Bumpers
Fogs
Centre Console
Steering wheel.
My first Fiat was a Punto 1.1ltr 6 Speed years ago, i have had a Mk2 & i have the new Sporting now, keeps the fuel costs down on the GTA.
Take a look at this Fiat forum for ideas.

Leave it standard and definitely don't add the euro plates. Extra hassle from the cops for something that looks crap even on VWs is certainly not worth it.
Why not keep it standard and if you have a garage get yourself something a bit sportier that needs a bit of work and build it up whilst building up the NCB to be able to insure it. It's a good way of learning how to be handier with a spanner, I wish I'd have done it sooner as it would've saved me a lot of money in garage bills.
