The SST gearbox on my Evo X has just gone bust after only 16,000 miles! Well, it simply stopped working, so I couldn't select any gear.

I've just been told by the dealer that they aren't allowed to strip down and fix the SST gearbox, so my car is getting a brand new one. Glad it's being done under warranty!

Has anyone heard of similar problems with other Evos?

Sure it's just no the gear linkage?

You've been ragging it too much! :P

No, the dealer said that a solenoid was stuck on and that there were 'a couple of other faults', but because he couldn't investigate further, he couldn't find out what they were.

Maybe. Although it's been properly serviced and I do try to drive it sympathetically, especially until everything is nicely warmed up…

Wonder why they are not allowed to work on it? Its meant to be a fairly straight forward unit compared to the likes of DSG. I know when these things dont work out its a huge problem though, look at Alfa's Selespeed gearbox, even the smallest of problems requires a specialist and lots of cash.

Because if the gearbox was opened up the world would find out that rather than it being crammed full of cutting edge Mitsubishi technology it actually contained a family of gear changing ferrets.

Well I knew the SST versions were detuned as the SST box can't handle the same torque the reguar manual does, but don't think I'd heard stories about them breaking at standard power levels.

I've never seen this problem on the MLR. First one i've heard of.

Brave if somebody tries to up the power on an SST!
