Needed to move on from my Focus ST coz the mpg was killing me , decided to go for one of these :

First mod already done is an ITG air filter , HID conversion & remap in the next couple of weeks.

well 18mpg in focus ST (driven sensibly most of the time) vs 30mpg in the Corsa VXR

No contest really.

The focus was great but having to fill up every 6 days was killing me so needed to change + wanted something smaller in actual size but still had enough poke.

have to say, I think these cars are great, and after having a go in one, I was quite startled at how nippy they are.

most of all, I love the seats! biggrin

the seats are super griipy , although i'm not keen on the way the seatbelt rubs against the leather on the shoulder of the seat.

Great car the VXR corsa. I had one as a company car for about a month and could av 26-31mpg.

Nice midrange torque for a 1.6lt did find it ran out of revs quick. Loved the induction roar!

Its better on fuel than the 2.5lt ST but I cant see a huge saving surely? Handles better imho though

The focus is know for drinking like a fish...

I like the C VXR - meant to be great fun to zip about in and chuck into corners.

definatley more of a go kart kind of feel to the VXR which is great , loves being chucked into corners & rounabouts.

Stunning car, love the Corsa VXR! thumbup

Is there much between it and the ST, performance wise?

Well to me I felt the Focus was nice & agressive when you booted it & made a fantastic noise.

The VXR seems more sedate but still has plenty of poke (nothing a good remap can't sort out though) , although the turbo seems to kick in too low down the revs for my liking as it tends to fling you across the road when pulling out.

Did the money you lost selling the ST not outweigh any fuel consumption improvement on the VXR and make it a pointless exercise?

That's what I was just thinking. I'm sure the OP has justified it to himself as people often do!

nice little car, but i have had an st for 2 years and have always managed 25mpg with very few motorway trips. i imagine it is more chuckable though and love the seats.

BigLepton : The VXR cost me exactly what I sold my ST for so no worries there.

rsstman : were you running stock or remapped? , 25mpg is possible with stock & normal driving , 18mpg with race+ dreamscience remap & the occasional blast.

Defo been a worthy change in my eyes.

Why didn't you just put it back to standard and you would have wouldn't have had to downgrade? I like the VXR it's a great drive but looks like it crashed into a glue factory and then went ram raiding at motorworld.
