Hey :-)

1st post :-), only have a 1.1 punto 55sx, due to insurance etc, im only 18 :-)

well i have had alot done to the car since getting it in aug, handbreak, calliper, alloys, wheel bearing, lower rear suspension arm

and today i went about (the 1st time doing anything to the car myself :/) changine the rear hubs as the ones on had been threaded, and the wheel was strugling to stay on !

one problem

i went to the scrappy and ofcourse the 2 hubs are used, the os rear is making a noise when turning left and also i noticed, once putting the hub on, washer then the large nut, there was slight play in the hub (meaning the hub could be pulled back and foward, by around 2mmish)

whats wrong ?

and help would be greatly appreciated !

Many many many thanks !!!

You need a new wheel bearing.

It takes some skill to get the play right and you could end up killing yourself or, worse, others, if you do it wrong.

Depends if its 4 part taper bearings or a single piece sealed cassette type bearing.

With the 4 part bearings you torque the nut down uber tight, then slacken it off only so much until you can force the washer behind the nut to slide sideways (the bore in the washer is oversize for this reason). You should not 'lever' the washer, simply push it's edge with the tip of a screwdriver. Properly adjusted the axial play should be less than a 10th of a millimetre, or putting it bluntly, impossible to feel. Certainly NOT 2mm. You are asking for your back wheel and brake to come off and likely kill you and perhaps someone else!

Typically the 4 part taper bearings are an on the driveway DIY proposition (socket set, hammer, punch, etc), whilst the single piece sealed cassette type bearing needs a hydraulic press to remove and refit.

In my opinion it is possibly too big a job if you have never worked on a car before.

If there is a problem you don't understand I would ask a professional. Although it does sound like your wheel bearings are shot.

Although don't let this put you off doing work on the car yourself, it's just you might be better off doing easier repairs/maintenance and progressing on to harder jobs as you gain experience.

Edited to add: What do you mean by the rear hubs are threaded?!
