Right after much deliberation i decided to get myself a new daily driver for work after the last one didnt prove as economical as i had first expected!!Right the need was for as cheap as poss running costs due to having an expensive second motor!! also theirs the start of my garage restoration thread, i 100% know its nowhere near most on here but this is my first house, im 24, and im working my way up so please no piss taking, i no its alittle, well dingy hency the restoration on the garage!! i was inspired by the pistonheads garage thread so im making my very own awesome garage.

first of all the reason why i brought a house in such poor condition, well this and of course the price for the area!

my new daily

full leather

bluetooth headunit with usb payback ect ect, also wired to use standard car column mount controls!!

New model year 1.6tdci motor, now bluefin tuned RR @ 120bhp from 89bhp. more importantly 35 quid road tax and 600 plus miles to a tank!! perfect!!

My weekend toy

inside my garage, all junk ect ect from previous owners now removed and burnt, the garage door needed taking off and completely re-aligning, so i call in henderson to do the trick!! now its glides like a plane

During the house RE-wire i placed these strip lights exactly where i wanted them, the one at the front of the car perfectly lights the engine bay, i also added plug points at the front for tricklecharger ect ect

i have ordered a hardwood door and frame to replace this old barn style door, the window will be frosted glass.

The garage will be completely repainted when the weather isnt so cold, as you can see where ive ripped off the old electrics ect ect its left unpainted gaps. i intend to build a false ceiling to house insulation as above the garage (spare bedroom) is absolutly freezing, ive got my new spot lights on their way for the ceiling. I managed get some flooring from costco which basically ckicks together and makes a real professional looking workshop look, but i am considering having the floor re-screened with this self leveling stuff which looks really clean!! Once its nearly done i'll be getting some nice slim line tool boxes for front end of the garage. im half considering cutting a whole into the wall where the sockets are so when im in my dining room (being built in summer) i can peer into my garage, but im slightly aprehensive it'll effect resale value!! i expect to have this complete by end of feb!!

hopefully ive inspired someone else to have a crack at your garage even if its far from perfect like mine!!!

byron.

Nice. I'm 22 and can only dream of having a house, Z4M and tin top in a couple of years!

Nout wrong with having a frugal tin top imho, I'm doing 25-30k a year so frugal is good, I went the kit car route for a second car.

Whatever it is that means you can afford these things at 24, I want in.

Is it drugs? It's drugs, isn't it.

Nice house, nice cars. Get that garage sorted.

ETA:
Just had a gander at your profile. I used to live just on the edge of Moor Hall Drive! Good solid area right there.

bloody hell iroll thats right on my door step!!! why did you move??? like i said my house was in a right state!!! but ive really got it into shape recently, i work in my family business no drugs here sadly, just solid solid graft, tbh i would acutally say where all my mates have had fun ect ect i just missed out and worked, so the trade off is i havent really had that much of a life as the businesses has been my life, but like all things in life its swings and roundabouts!! last year many times i nearly broke down in tears due to sheer stress.

anyway back to the garage, do a cut a hole in the wall through to the dining room or is that tacky!!!

im starting to regret ordering a hardwood door as im being told its going to need constant looking after, should i go for upvc?? ive got time to change.

any other ideas to make my single garage into a haven for all men? but obviously they need to be as cheap as possible and be very space effective!

Nice weekend car there thumbup Who cares about the daily - they're not for enjoying - you have the weekend car for that biggrin That garage looks ridiculously narrow - I think I noticed the hood down in the garage, is that so you can get in and out? hehe

R.e. hardwood door - what's a quick varnish every year or 2?? Depends what you like the look of.

R.e. window through to dining room - no, no, no, no hehe This will affect resale value a lot. I'm not sure a non-petrolhead would want to look at their focus in the garage!!

arry, yes it is narrow but not as bad as it looks i can easily open the doors on both sides and can walk completly around the car, passenger side is alittle squeeze and i do have to becareful when getting the car in and out, believe it or not ive had my moms m6 in here to see what i can get in, it was very tight but i could still get in the car. more pics on the way, once i get abit more underway with it.

i suppose i can always brick up the window once im done!!

mmm ill stick with the hardwood, will it swell once its gets wet or really hot??

It just mounts up really, I live 18miles from work, which is nearly 10k a year to and from the office; roughly the same again doing site visits, and 5-10k personal use. I worked out last summer between May and October I averaged 400miles per weekend just seeing friends/holiday/Le Mans/Nurburgring etc.

If you attach a thin layer of foam (e.g. sun lounger insert) to the garage wall at door height, then you can easily open the doors without worrying about scratching/denting them on the brickwork.

Get two of these and hang them on screws...

My Dad lost his job so we moved to a cheaper area (Tamworth) to free up some cash.

You should probably lend me your Z4 loads... Community spirit and all! I'll even let you have a go in my Volvo wink

ive just looked in my profle its not updated from when i lived at my parents, so i dont live in the four oaks estate, lol i REALLY havent got a chance their, their millions but some beautiful houses, im on the out skirts of four oaks leading towards streetly, still very nice and country side views!!

when buying m first house i completly forgot the house and went with the one with the best garage, tbh i was amazed at how many properties didnt have a garage, or converted into a dining room or it was just to small to get a car in. my ideal house is a small semi, corner plot loads of land and three garages like my neighbours house!!

There's one a bit like that just around the corner from where I live at the moment. Two bedrooms, three car garage. It's £145000 and I want it.

Four Oaks Estate is nice. I used to go strolling around there in my "youff" to have a look at some of the houses - well, the ones I could see anyway.

Superb, Beedub. Really good daily driver ready for the weekend toy which is kept all lovely in the garage. I notice you have a car cover too - is that an outdoor one or an indoor one? (it looks waterproof?).

I ask because one of the best investmenets I made was a car cover from www.classicadditions.co.uk - fully tailored custom fit jobby, was fantastic and kept the car looking perfect in the garage. I'm not linked to the company, but just think they've very good!

Really love the set up though - kudos to you.

its an outdoor cover, and as my garage gets REALLY dusty, its a must, like you say its one of the better purchases i made and yes its completly waterproof. and tailored to my motor. im making the perfect "normal working mans garage" more updates later in the week.
