Well this is quite a special car to me because when I learn to drive it will be minesmile basically she hardly uses it so it will be near enough my own car without the big costs of buying it, running it etc... For example she never uses at the weekends or after 1pm on weekdays so ideal for me to be insured on so I can keep my money for uni. Anyway it is a 2006 Ford Fiesta 1.4 ghia fully loaded (for a fiesta) leather interior, auto headlamps and wipers, cd changer, central locking alloys the lot and we got it today for £4750 from a local dealer not bad I think. Anyway here are a few pictures stolen from the advert will take some proper ones when we pick up on Saturday.

I knew I recognised the dealer being local to me - where do you live? Looks like a good spec & price! smile.

Were you intending to have a sleep in the car shortly after taking the photos?

They look like dealer pictures, some tend to put the seats down like that for the dashboard shot from the rear.

Nice car to be driving round in as a first car.

I live in shelfield in Walsall dealer was in sutton up a country lane with no sign behind a wood yard near a farm lol a rather strange location but I presume it kept the prices down as the stock seemed to be at good prices and I think we got a good deal personally.

No going to look after it, I don’t plan on becoming a boy racer lol just going too relax in the leather bound comfort and laugh at them as they come past with a dustbin for an exhaust. smile

Good skills. Had a similar deal myself back when I passed my test at 17. My school was walking distance from home so I didn't need a car to get there and my mum worked in another school and didn't use her car any other time - end result was I had free use of the car whenever I wanted because if I wasn't at school she wasn't at work. Sadly though, back in the late 90s it was a Rover Metro with absolutely no spec whatsoever, not even a radio. She changed it a year or so later though for a Fiesta, this coincided with my brother passing his test though so I had competition for that car...

Yes similar thing for me basically she works about 5mins walk away from home but it is a 10mins drive as longer route as cannot cut across field's in a car lol. She only works till half 12 as well that means in the summer she will walk to work and I will have the car near enough all the time accept for when she goes on the weekly shop. Then in the winter months I can either drop her off at work and collect if I can or if not let her have the car and use my scooter (I will most likely do this instead). However all weekends and when I get back from sixth form the car will be mine so get all the benefits and none of the expense (well the odd bit of petrol) and in 2 years time they are going to give me the car anyway lolsmileAll of this means I can keep the money I was going to spend on a car in the bank and should be able to cover my first year at uni (just) which will be a big help.

Thankssmile Having a bit of a dilemma at the moment though still not sure if should buy my own car now (probably a classic mini or a kit car) just not sure if worth it or not might give it a few months and see how things go (once I have passed my test that is lol). If insurance was cheaper would definitely buy but looking at around 2k on a mini 1275 plus the car as not into fronting insurance lol plus buying the car which is going to be 2.5k for a good un. Whereas insurance on my mum as named driver is only going to be about £1600 and she will pay half is a tuff decision lol.

I'd stick with your mum's car - it might not be cool like a Mini, but it sounds like you'll pretty much have free use of it for free. Also, unlike a classic Mini, the Fiesta will be comfortable, safe (if you do stack it) and start every time; if it does break down your mum will pick the bills up. Save your money for now and buy a car when you start working and need one of your own.

Who is your mum insured with? I think it's Direct Line that do a policy where named drivers can also accrue NCB - I'm guessing you'd be obligated to insure any car of your own with them to take advantage of it but it could be worth a look especially if you're planning on being careful and getting a year or 2's NCB off your mum's car.

If you've got the money, building a kit car while driving your Mums car would be a great idea. You get the fun of building/learning while building no claims, then you have a special car in a year or so.

Very nice, I learned in a diesel Fiesta, loved it. Can't believe that price, my local Caffyn's has 05reg pre-facelift Zetecs on for £5,750!
I'm in a similar situation, we bought my car 6yrs ago as a runabout for mum, then dad started working from home, only going out occasionally for site meetings, so she now drives his Audi to work everyday whilst I drive the Mazda, if Dad needs a car he'll time his meetings for when I have free mornings/afternoons and will take mine, although sometimes, I end up having to get the train when the Audi & Mazda aer both required.
Hopeully in March-ish, Mum'll be getting a new Golf/Civic/C-RV/Leon/Qashqai blah blah and Dad might treat me to an early birthday/xmas 01 Peugeot 306 MeridianSE 1.6 or an '03 Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4

Yeah the more I think about it more it seems like a pretty good deal going to see how it works out I think if I don’t feel I am getting enough use from the car may look into buying my own. And at the moment she is insured with saga lol (old parents) but we are planning on moving to direct line if I get insured on her car but thanks for the tip anyway. If i do get insured on her's probably will upgrade my scooter to peugeot jetforce supercharged for when I cannot use the car so not all bad lol think may wait a year and see how it goes if not well I still have my no claims at least.

Would love to but do not have the space, time (a levels) and have no mechanical knowledge at all would just end up incomplete on the drive to be honest will be something I will look into when older and have more time and space to build it in and be able to build something like a caterham which I would love to own.

Yes was a good price probably because has done 40,000 miles but is till a few hundred quid under book price and the car prices seem to be going up again at the moment so I think we got a good deal. Yes well probably going to do similar now and have a supercharged pug scooter as back up then when had a years no claims may look into getting a car depending whether I need it for uni or not as may not even need a car until after I leave. Got a few months yet though not 17 till march so stuck on my stupid 50cc scooter that does about 55mph for now lolfrown
