Any one DIY'd a Rotrex charger? What on? pics? Heres mine
Discussion
Hi, my first post here although ive been reading here for quite along time.
Anyway thought id post a few pics of my project up for anyone intrested and wondered if any one else had a simular project? if you have please post some pics!
Heres my first attempt i did when i was 19, its been in two mags so you may have seen it before.
It was 136bhp standard and with my charger it made 205bhp at the fly wheel this time using the rotrex charger i'am planning to get 300+bhp. hope you all like it.
Now what the title is realy about, 2 years older and bored of the power i bought a rotrex charger and started fabbing up some bracklets and pipe work fo it, heres some of the pics from the project so far.
Wooden mock up of the braket
After i made the metal one
My intercooler
Mounted with my DIY stainless boost pipes
My swedish style inlet, not sure weather to polish it or do it with crackle black paint.
So lets see yours if your working on a project, give me some insperation! and some motivation to get outside in the cold weather and finish it off
Cheers, Matt

All well and good, but i think id have started with something a little more powerful than a 1.8?
All the same, good work.
Might there not be enough room with an M20 under the bonnet? All the same, good work.
Seems a hell of a lot of work and expense for similar power output to an M50B25 or M52B28 conversion but fair play to you for not taking the easy option.
Nice work AT. I love the sound of the sixes but this will out handle any M20 / M30 / M50 / M52 or S50 powered car FWIW, I think you should finish the plenum in crackle black for a more factory fresh appearance. will be something different as well (most similar ones I've seen are polished). Keep the updates coming.

As for the swopping of the engine the B25 is only 189bhp and the B28 197bhp there is quite a lot of expence in doing that to, so far the first conversion only cost me £1700 including the stand allown ECU and getting it mapped.
The second has obviously cost more but now the car has got alot of work done on the running gear, ECU and the body work so half of the work is already done.
Yes this is the lower boost conversion offered by lynx, i bought the kit and fitted it all myself, i own a garage in Leicester that specialises in french cars and the 306 quite heavily so it wasn't to much of a job.
The charger is running the full boost but has a limiter plate fitted at the throttle body to lower the boost pressure, unsure on the total amount.
The ring was amazing, i only managed 8 laps as i started to get a bit lairy racing a vx220 turbo and go into a bit of a state mid corner (close call)
Rich from Lynx has now got his running 500bhp so anything is possible, i am more than happy with the power from mine at the minute, bags of fun. Rich is a top bloke so if a kit is bought he offers full back up and gives a detailed installation Manuel should anyone be thinking of diy one themselves.

Is this car the one that was in PPC or Retro? Nice car!
Now supercharging a M50B25/28 that would be interesting
(the 2.8l is an M52 BTW )Now supercharging a M50B25/28 that would be interesting
I'd love one of these on my 325i trackcar:

Used to be a lot better value before the arse dropped out of the exchange rate.
Very nice, looks like a well developed car! And good to see the development is ongoing
Went to buy a gearbox for my mk1 the other day and the guy was getting shot as he's just fitting a 20VT engine, but with a Rotrex 'charger. Oh man that is going to be some fun in a mkl
Also liking the Rallye!
Keep us updated on the progress with this! To be honest, I like the fact you've kept the 1.8is motor as it makes things more 'interesting'

Cheers, my mates got a mk2 golf he fitted an Audi 80 2ltr engine in it last year after we killed the 80 at the ring and then it filled with water in the flood, i keep telling him to fit a charger. pritty quick as it is

It was an eaton m45 supercharger off a mini cooper s. As far as i know i was the first to do this in the Uk an at the time anywere else although there are two more being build on the e30zone now.
A firm called downingatlanta did a simular kit but it made less power than mine only 187bhp iirc.
I made a laminova style chargecooler set up that sat in the inlet manifold, dropped the charge temp by 30c!! Eaton chargers get very hot!
