well, i'd always wanted one of these. i'd set myself the task of finding a pre march 2001 car to go with the pre c02 emission roadtax @ £185. I mentioned to a mate at work that i was looking and he said he knew a mutual friend of ours was looking after one for his brother in law who had moved to London but hadn't taken the car with him as he had no need for it down there, so had left it up in Milton Keynes.

The car had done around 200 miles in the past 7 months apparently, but had been freshly serviced and had 4 almost new tyres. It's on a W 2000 plate and only had 55k on the clock. When it came down to price and he came in with an asking price £1500-2000 cheaper than any on autotrader of the same year and mileage I knew i had to have it.

I took it for a test drive and was sold. For an 8 year old car it just felt so tight, planted, and handled like it was on rails, and I was hooked on that RWD feeling.

Unfortunately on the test drive the weather was freezing cold and we had a little accident. I put the roof down to test that all was working ok and the plastic rear screen cracked. Not the best of starts, but as the car was cheap and was from a friend of a friend i still wanted it. We came to an arrangement and they knocked another £350 off for me to get the roof repaired at a specialist.

So I sold my Fabia vRS (dirt cheap) and went to pick up the car (yes i know i still haven't mentioned what it is yet!), so here she is......

So things that i need to do now are get the rear window replaced after xmas, fit a decent stereo as the current one is dire to say the least, get some nicer wheels on there, and possibly get some coilovers to lower it a bit.

I'm not a big fan of the high pitch exhaust note these things make with aftermarket exhausts, so i recon i'll stick to standard and maybe decat it. I am running with the airbox lid off at the moment as they have a cone filter in the box as standard, the noise it makes just from induction roar once up into vtec is absolutely sexual!

So there you go, that's my new (old) car, i'll keep this thread up to date as i do bits and pieces to it.

Always loved those, they look so much better in the metal. For some reason photos do not do them justice?

Enjoy!

the tyres look huuuuuuuge in the photos. new rims and lower profile tyres are much needed. the sensible side of me is telling me to wait a bit though as the tyres are almost new.

Good choice in Automobile there I love the S2000s and that one looks particularly good in silver. I agree they do sound good in the VTEC.
I know someone who has one with an aftermarket exhaust fitted that has a nice rumble rather than a high pitched howl I can ask him where he got it if you want?

Welcome to the club. You'll have some great fun. The side vents on the front bumper have been sprayed silver on your car...not normal for a Revision 1 or Mark 1. Also looks like you have an aftermarket wind deflector.....Ricks accessories perhaps.....and the front Honda Badge isn't standard either.

Looks wise, try and get some 17" OEM wheels from the 04 or 06 model.

You bought a great modern rwd roadster which is capable of very high performance the sensible thing to do will be to change the tyres if they are not right, go to a proper perfirmances tyre specialist to get not only the right model of tyre but the right compond too - the correct tyres are most important on such a car

Unless anything else is broken (on a Honda S2000 (?) MOST reliable car for 3/4 years running) don't replace it

Learn to drive the car during the winter and spring taking it easy especially as you're new to rwd (the chances of you having an accident in your first year of ownership are very high so please buck the statistics)

Boring things that are often missed by owners who only do 500 miles and don't use the car often enough to know not to lower the hood in very cold temperatures are vital things like blake fluid changes and care of brakes and suspension especially as there are extra charges to the very espensive annual Honda "service" (oil change)

Apoligises to previous owner if they took care of such things and dropping the hood was just a mistake in which case they'd have put the correct tyres on(?)

Enjoy the car for 6-9 months to discover whether you actually need the improvements(?) you've mentioned, when your really driving it you wont be listening to the stereo anyway and on all but the very cold days you can have the roof down even for part of a journey or better still keep the roof down and go on a drive smile

Quality rims should be advised :-

Rota make some great looking copies of quality wheels.

However :-

Spokes are supposed to be straight not swept

get what you pay for etc

Great car in a great colour combo - and sound like you got a great deal.

I think those wheels look good, but if you are going to change them I would go for the later OEM wheels as they look much classier and less Fast and Furious than some aftermarket offerings.

Enjoy!

just to set the record straight, the correct size tyres are on the car, and high performance tyres are fitted. i merely mentioned it because i dislike the way the wheels look due to the size of the tyre walls.

just 2 pics taken today

Absolutely awesome cars mate! biggrin Ive had two and I sold my favorite red one around 4 months ago now to the owner of Artech tuning frown

Watch it in the wet and ice! They are soooo twitchy if you push a tad to hard! My red one had an aftermarket diff on it which improved things so much.

As for wheels the ones on mine are the Japanese import forged BBS wheels. My favorite wheels of all time on S2000s are BBS LMs though! Just have to remortgage the house to afford them frown

Awesome car, i kept looking at these early last year, even got as far as a few test drives.
IMO they're a proper performance bargain at the moment what with the market as it is. If the value of my car hadn't of dropped so much just recently i think i would probably snap one up in time for the summer.
