Mercedes 190 E 2.0
Discussion
As mentioned in Garlicks thread, I bought a 190E the other day.
Really happy with it so far, going to get the gearbox oil and filters changed by a transmission specialist (oh and the rear diff oil). Going to do a fair amount of servicing myself (although I am really worried about changing the spark plugs since it is so easy to cross thread them!)
I am beginning to like the auto box.. although I would MUCH prefer a manual.
Oh and the washer jets have packed up, which is a pain.
Some pictures below, although they aren't brilliant (I by no means a talented photographer!)

I've had my eye on one of these, but the 2.0 seems a bit small for an older car. Is it pokey enough, or just lazy cruising? What's it like on fuel?
the 2.0 injection badged 190E the E being important as 190's are carbs always was the 'regular' 190 of choice and is more than adequate for kicking about in, mpg ought to be around 30mpg+ (mercs 4 cylinder autos are surprisingly econonical)If you want more power to waft with theres always the 190E 2.6 straight six the ultimate pocket limo

More lazy cruising to be honest. I am expecting it to be a bit more "pokey" after a proper service to engine and transmission.190E Matt said:

It's certainly a gorgeous car!

Darren,
The original Brabus wheels were very similar to Cosworth wheels (not the normal 3-spoke style that Brabus used) and were, unfortunately, completely buggered so were replaced.
Mod wise it is bodykit and suspension only. I've had a couple of conversations with Brabus trying to trace its history but their records don't go back that far anymore. I bought after taking it in part exchange without paying much attention to it other than it was a nice 190E.
When I was working at the motorshow one year I was talking to a member of public on the stand who was waxing lyrical about this super rare Merc he had. Apparently it was one of six 190E's that were sent straight to Brabus from the factory in 1986 to have body conversions done before being shipped to the UK for sale and his was extremely rare because it was black and they only made two of them in black. Imagine the look on his face when I told him that in that case then I own the other one.
How much of this is true who knows. For all I know it may just be someone had the bodywork done over here.
But with everything the car has been through since I've owned it, especially taking into account I bought it as a first wedding anniversary present for my wife, it's not going anywhere soon.

I've put an absolutely spotless 2.0 190E RHD Jap-import with 55K on the clock out in our place in Italy. Full leather, air con, sunroof etc. etc..
Bought it in June and had it trucked out. Used it all of July and it's just totally brilliant. We call it 'Ron' (as in Ronseal) .
Cost?...£1500
The Mrs has just been out last week and it fired up 1st dibs and wafted her about for a week. She loves it 'cos it's so narrow and suitable for the roads out there.
