OK, we've had unconventional fast cars, but what about the opposite?

People used to say to me all the time "wow, nice car, bet it goes fast..."

Er, no, it's slower than your VTR/whatever - but i love it anyway, and its quite comfortable.

I really miss the old girl.

Post...

ETA: I appreciate its not what PH is about - but some of you must have fallen foul of horrendous insurance quotes, as i did.

That colour is gorgeous. Don't see many in that around where I live.

AFAIK, there are only 2 coupes in this colour...

There are some very similar colours but 'Ruby Red II Individual' is a rare one. Its what made me buy the car in the first place.

Enzo?????????????

In all seriousness my old Corrado G60 running 200 BHP was slower than an 8v MK2 gti to about 70ish. It was down to the gearing but still was pretty slow!

MGZT with the 1.8 120 HP engine!!!!!!!!

Hyundai Coupes should fall into this category.

standard 206 Gti's. On paper it should be good, with heritage from the fabled 205. But it always feels like someone has nicked 50bhp from your 138bhp the book tells you you've got.

Strip it back though and its a different story,

Looks fast, but in reality was only fast through corners and unbelievably fast to stop.

Miss it like crazy though! frown

Think my Corrado falls under that catagory:

Looks like it should be quick but as it's only the 2.0 60 comes in a rather leisurly 9 seconds. Needs the VR6 engine under the bonnet.
tommobot, that Racing Puma looks lovely. Had to have a quick look through the old autotrader to see what the prices are like at the minute... I thought they were reasonably swift though, hot hatch sort of performance?

Golf VR6
Golf R32 (IV and V)

Nowhere near as quick as either of them cold or indeed should be! One fat, one suffering from silly gearing.

The Pontiac Fiero GT. Mid engined two seater sports coupe. Top speed of 112mph and 0-60 in 9 seconds. They should have dropped a V8 in there....

Its plenty quick enough, but its not as fast as it looks. Imo, it looks like it should be FRS quick, but sadly it isnt. 0-60 around 8 seconds, but overtaking at NSL speed was always a bit of a struggle. Bloody brillaint car though none the less, just needs a bit more oooomph

Mine falls in this category. Looks fast. Sounds fast. Feels fast. Isn't actually all that fast at all (0-60 in a little under 8 secs, 140mph all told).

Very licence-friendly!

My astra coupe 1.8 is slower than my old focus 1.8, but by the book the astras 0-60 is 8.5 and the focus was 9.8. Strange...

Hmmm

Don't know how fast my Fiero goes - the speedo only goes to 120... but satnav confirms more than 112 wink - good enough for a 24 year old car with an automatic gearbox...

But it's bogged down by the extra weight of the cruise-control and all that heat-resistant blanket stuff... rotate

Actually, I suspect taking the cat out of mine was worth a lot more than a go-faster sticker.

I appreciate it's all relative, but I always found my Esprit GT3 to be far slower than you might have thought from the looks. 240ish BHP from a 2 liter engine is good going and the car had a lot of road presence but it was a fairly heavy and being so wide it wasn't the best for having a blast on the road.
