Do manufacturers actually buy some back then?

OlberJ - thats a fine looking black mk1a you got there, it looks GOOD on those wheels, are they 17's?

thanks for the kind words people, she is in good condition but not perfect, not by a long way! I made the decision to USE the car and get its life use out of it 3 years ago. Having said that its 'daily use' is not heavy at all, never been used for commuting. Should give me 10 years back at least if i keep looking after it.

Going to pack it up for winter now and get a small car, ideal for manchester city centre! and commuting!
on the subject of toyota, in sheffield, about 3/4 years ago, they had one which had done 20 miles and had been stood in the showroom for 20 years, it sold for around 10k iirc - well worth it.

Was owned by an elderly gentleman who bought it from new, came with the 85 edition of autocar magazine with the review of the mk1a in.

they are alot of fun to drive, just need more power. Too much rear end grip... handles brilliantly, will give alot of cars a run for its money, on bends at least. performance wise its not too bad, bearing in mind its 20 years old. Were talking 7.5/8 to 60 and a top end of 125 - tho ive never tried in this one! handling reminds me of a baby NSX, can be a bit tail happy if you over do it - if you brake midcorner your done for :-D

Cheers mate, they're only 16's and the biggest i'd go on a Mk1 to keep the handling.

Funny you should mention that, have a wee look at the company i work fors website : www.woodsport.org

When the urge gets too much, give us a call and we'll sort you out. Just finished putting a 1MZ into a Mk1 last week and it goes in without modding the rear firewall, feels just like the 4age is still in there handling wise and drives oh so sweetly.

Turns it from a baby NSX into an adolescent one wink

That's a stunning mk1a...

No kidding about it being a handful if you over do it. I very very sadly killed my old 88 t-bar (super red, black leather, FTSH) after a I got a tank slapper on a greasy off-camber bend.

Replaced it with a ropey mica blue mk1 but it never held a candle to my first and as they are so scarce in great condition, I've never found one good enough to replace it.

Seriously, if you ever sell... Pm me smile

That looks in amazing condition! Make sure you keep it that way, that doesn't mean don't drive it hard though. They are very chuckable little cars, I loved mine but the rust was too advanced to merit trying to restore it. There are not many good ones left.

thanks for the nice comments everyone, makes me think all the care and upkeep is worth while! The fact its not a lotus or ferrari etc means its more special in a sense, cause people dont expect them to be kept and looked after - with a lotus its pretty much a given that some will be cherished and looked after. Does that make sense? this car is unpretentious yet flashy, its confident but not cocky, its something differant in a world of dull cars, and its cheap as chips, which is nice.

olberj - pauls wood/s(?) yes ive seen alot of his fine work on the mk1 club, hes appears to be some sort of mk1 jedi master! Id defo want to do it one day, but this engine is on 36k now so im going to get the most out of it first, 80k at least. then again im not using it during winter so the miles wont change much tbh.

charged - fantastic supercharger ollie, see the pic on the mk1 club on your posts all the time. Amazing colour, amazing performance i bet. lil bit jealous smile

added new pic, had skirt resprayed and colour coded my spare mirrors.

got a seicento for winter, so right now im in the middle of stripping the rear/boot! jon.
