Ok, so here is a picture of the car going out onto the track at Cadwell Park about a month ago:

nice hey...

Anyway, he let my older brother drive it (who thinks that he is a racing driver). We had done about 20 laps on the track, then realised Chris Harris was in front in an Orange VX200 (stripped out etc). He was very quick, but my brother thought that he was just as good a driver, so tried to keep up with him. Well, he couldn't't and caused a red flag..

According to my bro we (yes we) hit the tyre wall at about 80mph. Luckily we were both fine, but obviously the car wasn't...

On the way back from the track (we trailered the car) we stopped in at Red Line, who estimated that the rough cost to fix it would be about £10k, but who also informed us that if we stripped it down and then rebuilt it ourselves, it would only cost about £3-4k. Shame my bro was uninsured hey!

Anyway,
Here are some photos up to the state it is in now:

Anyway, I'll update when we get on with sorting it out more...

I doubt you, yes both of you were doing anything like 80mph when you hit the tyre barrier, probably not more than 20 or 30mph.
You could either get that straightened or graft a new front end on to the chassis or even a complete new chassis, I wouldn't think they are overly expensive in the grand scheme of things.

That's not too much damage for a 80mph collision with a tyrewall in a caterham - strong car! Assume it's a complete stripdown and new chassis + wishbones + replaced panels?

Just need a new front section 2 new side skins and a repray and it will be as good as new. Get on the phone to Arch, will cost about £1700 to have the new front end done by Arch.

Your brothers an awesome driver hehe

but on a serious note wont that go down as quite bad damage inwhich someone might not even buy it when it comes to a resale due to the fact that the chassis has been bent?

Doesn't sound like the op is going the insurance route ,

Therefore it wont effect the re-sale value of the car as it wont be recorded

Easy to take the p!ss after someone has an off - at least the lad has had the experience and the hardest knocks you always learn from.

More power to your dad for letting you and your brother out in the car. I hope when older to allow my littl'uns to have the experiences too.

PS Good Luck with the rebuild...

I can remember coming off my m/bike at around 70 and being incredibly lucky (I slid down the outside lane of the A123 without hitting anything). Some I told informed me that I could not possibly had been doing that speed because I would have been more injured. B0ll0cks to them.
However, I just thought that I'd point out that I have a stripped VX220 adn look not unlike the big man Harris. And I'm crap. So that must mean your bro is even worse than you thought!

nah, not for a while, dad's too busy with stuff and not had time... Not sure whether he has called arch yet. I will update when we get on with stuff.

Also, a quick question for someone, what is the best way of draining the fuel tank? so it is easy to lift onto the trailer (and we can use the fuel)

Have a chat with Ben at www.classiccarworkshop.com he's done loads of these, may be cheaper than Red Line?

Breaking News!!

The car is back from Arch and TSK and is looking good! The colour is 997 GT3RS Orange.

We will put the engine in this coming weekend, so that will be a challenge.

Stunning, can't wait to see it complete. Can I have another ride in it once it's finished?
