I really do have a soft sopt for these, yours looks nice.

What sort of power can the gearboxes take- IIRC thats the weak point on them?

Thanks mate.

Personally i think the boxes are pretty strong. A lot of people said to me before i got it was 'Oh your gonna go through a load of boxes in that thing, etc etc!' Touch wood i haven't had a problem yet...

I think theres a lot of hype regarding the GTI-R and their gearboxes, admittedly its the casing thats the weak point. Its usually the drag boys with the big power that have the most problems, popping 5k-6k launches down the Pod is not going to be good for any box!

Theres a member on the OC who is pushing out 420bhp with matching torque and is still on the standard box. So they are not that bad.

End of the day i suspose its all down to how you treat it. Keep launching it all the time off the lights and like any car/box something is gonna go in the end!!!

gearboxs its pretty much pot luck with them rom previos experince .

i have had standard box in good condition let go on me without launching with about 350@fly

but had standard boxs in and they have had loads of abuse and launches with over 400bhp and still not broken , currently upto 12 diffent boxs in 5yrs 2 of which was qauife that decided they wanted to come out the case, its only a weekend toy for me though so a ppg is on order since rebuilding my engine i no the stock box wont take it ,

you either get lucky or you dont simple realy , if goes wrong engine out new box on engine back in 5hrs should see it done and £250-300 + oils

Well power wise is still pretty standard.

Added full exhaust system, Blitz air filter with stainless filter relocation pipe, light weight pulleys and a FMIC kit.

Since i've had it i wanted to get the handling and braking side of things sorted. The standard one pots are shockingly censored!!

So i added the Hi Spec 4pot 280mm kit. Which at first when i got them i didn't think they were much cop either. So i got shot of the Green Stuff pads which came with them and also removed my ABS at the time aswell. Now i've got to say am quite impressed with them.

Then for the handling side i put on the Tein coilovers, front and rear Whitline ARB's and front and rear strut braces.

Next thing to do i think is to change the seats. They are so unsupportive. I feel i can't drive the car properly as i'm always hanging on to the steering wheel round the bends!! yikes

And Matt you are right they are Rota Grids....

Must admit to being a die hard vw fan but I do have a rather large soft spot for GTiR's especially when they look as good as this one!

Cool dad! biggrin Some decent cars in your family.

I'm quite fond of these GTRs' too. A black one (are'nt they all?) just like yours tailed me for a bit last week, certainly seemed to have some squirt!
