My BMW 328i Coupe
Discussion
Ok this is my 3rd E36, whatever I buy I always end up selling and coming back to an E36! Many things affected my decision, the solid build quality, the looks and very importantly the low price!! I haven't done anything to it as yet but I have a few plans to subtly modify it. The first thing it needs is some paintwork attention. Due to being a black car it shows up every inperfection so I plan to have it buffed, polished and clay barred soon enough!
The rear spoiler is sagging slightly so I am going to source another one secondhand, along with an M3 bumper and have the 2 resprayed along with the bonnet and grill surround. It needs lowering slightly and a full service. The fronts discs are warped so I'm treating her to a set of new discs and pads this week!

I believe you want a throttle body or inlet manifold (I can't remember which,) from an early E36 325i up to about '94 which I'm told releases a sizeable amount of extra power. IIRC BMW heavily restricted the inlet to stop it encroaching too much on the M3 of the time and tempting people away from them.
Very nice!
Here is some info on how to carry out the manifold swap here. Should free up around 20-30bhp. As the link says "Thisis a mod that is well worth your time if you drive with your foot to the floor."

E36 BMW....what a great car! I am currently on my third (a 382i Convertible after an Alpina Coupe and a 325i standard coupe). I keep thinking I should change it as it devalues and racks up miles...but to what (an E46 M3 one day...thats what...I hope!). I was looking for a 328i as a track day toy...but just bought a Pug 309 GTi instead. So now i have a fun road car and fun trck car (albeit slower!).

Nice car, very tidy
from experience though - bearing in mind its 328 and P reg, resist to much modding. better to save for a proper drivers car at some point. I had a 1.8 audi I got carried away with bodykit etc and would have been better off getting an S4!
In fairness you have a point.from experience though - bearing in mind its 328 and P reg, resist to much modding. better to save for a proper drivers car at some point. I had a 1.8 audi I got carried away with bodykit etc and would have been better off getting an S4!
Ive had 4 e36 BMW's including a 328i sport. Great drivers car, no slouch and quick and responsive enough.
My current e36 is an M3.
M3's are so cheap at the moment there is no point in chucking money at *modding* a standard 328i.
However throw money at keeping it well serviced and it will last for years with lots of driver enjoyment!
Ash.
