It's not in the UK?

They paint the bottom half of trees white in Kazakhstan and various other countries in that region of the world. It's somthing to do with stopping pests. I think.

Welcome to PH by the way wavey

I see you're from Aberdeen, do you work in Oil and Gas?

I was in Atyrau for a couple of years, currently back in the UK working on a project in Wales. I want to go back out there again, for some perverse reason I miss it.

Whereabout were you?

There are a few of us who work in oil and gas and construction on PH.

Never been to Atyrau, i am based only in Aktau - supposed to be one of the 'better' area's of Kazakhstan. Spending a lot of time in Baku (Azerbaijan) at the moment too and must say - for the difference in culture compared to the UK, i do strangely enjoy it.

I did think that seeing some of the desireable cars owned by PH members here that Oil and Gas jobs may be behind a few of them.

smile

I've got a few mates in Aktau, though I've not been down there myself. I did some design work on a desalination project there when in Atyrau.

I've heard Baku is a great place, although it has wound down a lot now. I've heard a lot about the 'glory' days of about fives years ago.

God bless those pretty Russian girls!

I was quite lucky to get into Oil and Gas, by living in Aberdeen pretty much every job here has a link to it somehow.

Very good chance we maybe know the same people then as Aktau is a very close nit city - every ex-pac seems to know the other.

Baku is nothing like the "glory days" anymore unfortunatly, in fact i'd actually say Aktau is on the verge of soon becoming the new Baku (or old baku, whichever way you look at it)

Ah indeed the pretty Russian girls - they kind of almost make it all worth while hehe
