1990 Lotus Esprit Turbo SE
Discussion
My dad has just become the owner of a 1990 Lotus Esprit Turbo SE
I went with him to pick it up, got home about 2 hours ago, and already he is trying to think of excuses to drive it, I've never seen him so eager to drive a car!
not many pics yet, it was dark by the time we got home and the pictures I took, didn't turn out great but I'll post the photos from the ebay auction and take some more tomorrow
its pretty standard, K&N air filter (a must!) but with the ECU trouble its running 0.6 bar Max, but it will run about 0.84 on full boost, but it should be sorted
0-60 time is below 5 seconds (4.7?) and the top speed is about 160mph, so its pretty fast
Thanks!
Updates*
My dad had the leather cover off the shifter yesterday, to see if he could sort out the 2nd gear and reverse gear problem, seems that the aluminium blocker for the reverse collar has warped and is now causing an obstruction, so we'll have to remove the bolts and move it back a few mm, but at least its better than a translator problem
the exhaust began to blow badly, we knew that this problem was there, the cat pipe ring had totally corroded and was hanging off! so we are currently on the back order with S&J sportscars for a DE-Cat pipe, two weeks seems so far away, but my dad is going to repair the current ring so the car is usable
We also tested the ECU problem, we removed the temperature sensor and tested the contacts, which proved to be faulty, after removing the sensor the car reached full boost, so a temeprature sensor is being sourced
and after removing the SAT-NAV system (from 1999 lmao) there is some damage to the laether dashboard, seems the one of the previous owners just screwed it into the dash....sigh

I will enjoy it, even if it is from the passenger seat
this is his fourth Lotus and he currently owns three (but one of them is off the road on a total rebuild)
its a great ride, much different than an Excel, much smoother acceleration and the ride is so much softer and there is little exhaust note, maybe due to it being fuel injection rather than carburettor

Update Time!
New exhaust is here and being fitted as I type this, Silencer is about half the size of the older unit
New temp Sensor on order for Chargecooler...Rang Lotus they wanted £88 (fk off!) rang a Local Supplier of Aftermarket mods, the unit is a simple Delco part used in the majority of older turbocharged vehicles.....£15 with postage, the newer unit will need the wiring modified slightly but the shop supplied a wiring diagram and it'll only take 5 minutes, I will finally post some pics of it when its all done
So all in all its going great
