Hi all, I'm in need of a bit of advice.
My car (Rover 25) is currently up for sale because I'm 17 and I can't afford to insure it. I had some interest but then a potential buyer informed me that the car was a Cat D write-off (through the HPI check I shold have done!). The car has not presented me with any problems in the few months I've had it and the only minor cosmetic issues I can see is a slightly larger panel gap for passenger door and a rear 3/4 panel that doesn't quite match the rest of the car. Still, I need to sell the car and wondered what you guys think I should do? I was thinking of reducing the price to offers around £600 and suggesting a proper inspection before buying. What do you think?
Thanks
Matt

Are people really that finnicky about Rovers?

If it is a Cat D the the value will always be significantly less than the equivalent car which isn't. I wouldn't be suprised if it was worth more like half or a quarter of what a straight one is. Harsh but true I'm afraid.

Yep Cat D, plus the amount of insurers that won't touch Rovers now and you've got a very limited market.

Thats the first I've heard of it! I have to say, in two years of owning a Rover, I've never once had a problem getting insurance. No issues whatsoever.

The cat D will render the car pretty worthless now though. Since I've been a memeber of PH the value of my car has dropped a fair amount. The market is quickly slipping away. All I can say is aim your sale at a first driver. The 25 does make a good first driver and lets be honest, how much does a cat D really matter on a car of that value? As long as its safe and above board, target the right buyer and you should still be able to move it on at a half decent price. I wouldnt say any more than 700 quid though.

P.S dont miss-understand me in saying aim it at a first driver to con them, You MUST make clear from the outset that it is an honest car.

Good luck

Sir Jonny

Problem is that a car like that is cheap anyway due to the general market collapse. Why would a customer buy a potentially dangerous back street repair (hence you not knowing) when for not much more they can buy a solid car.

My mate had exactly the same happen with a 220GTi. A guy took it as a part ex for cock all once it came out.

Now you know it is illegal to sell it as anything other than a repaired write off.

Sorry.

PS you may get a lot more for it in parts if you have room / time to do it?

Oh, and next time you buy a car, get it HPI'd and make sure you can afford the insurance.

As has been said before, its pretty worthless, no harm in advertising it on free sites like this one though as long as you are straight.

Might not be a bad daily hack for someone.

A Rover 25 is worthless now anyway. Its a £600 car so people shouldn't be expecting pristine for their money. You gets what you pays for. If you want a minter tell them to go and spend 3k on a forecourt.
