My Mk1 Eunos S-Spec
Discussion
Hi Folks
I've actually had this since last December, but have only now got round to getting some semi-decent photos of it. I use it as a daily driver, but it was also pressed into service as a trackday car last week at Abingdon. It was such a hoot on track, and more fun to chuck around than my Corrado despite it having only half the power & torque.
It's a 1993 S-Spec 1.6 with Bilstein dampers and chassis braces front and rear. It was a real bind getting half-decent tyres for it, as it still has 14" wheels. I settled for Goodyear Hydragrip in the end, as I couldn't get T1-Rs or Eagle F1s in such a small size. I hate those 14" Mazda wheels, and new alloys may be in the offing soon. I quite fancy some Rotas in 15". I'm also trying to resist the lure of forced-induction and haven't been looking at Jackson Racing superchargers or BEGI turbo kits at all...

Nice, you can get T1R's in 195/55R14, would they not have fitted?
Ah, didn't know that! Yes, they would have fitted, and it's not making the contact patch much bigger. Don't want tooooo much grip (paradoxically) as I like the slidey-chuckable aspect of the car.Negative, I think the 'standard' S-Spec items were spoiler, chassis bracing, Bilsteins, BBS wheels, Nardi steering wheel and shiny alloy speaker pod bits on the doors, AFAIK. At some point in its life my BBS wheels seem to have transmogrified into the standard ones.

Looks very tidy, do the brakes last well on the track or not?
The discs & calipers are standard 1.6 items, standard rear pads, EBC kevlar fronts, fresh DOT 5.1 fluid and system carefully bled. The pedal feel was rock-hard.There was no fade at all despite several hard stops per lap, and I had the car out for a good 20 mins at a time. I was a bit wary of not using a trackday or 'fast-road' pad, but the car is so (relatively) lightweight the brake energy is not that high in the grand scheme of things. I've used standard pads on things like Mk2 Golf GTIs on track successfully in the past without fade.
I reckon having well-bled fresh brake fluid is at least as important as decent pads/discs when going on track.
The standard mild steel exhaust is in good nick, but when it goes I do indeed plan to go for a Larini or something.
Negative, have a look at the vehicle information sticker on the b-pillar in the driver's doorframe. Mine has 'S-Spec' under the 'special edition' category.
