Now i am not a huge BMW fan but i bought one anyway. I would have preferred a MK1 or 2 Escort or a 105 series Alfa but i couldn't afford one of them, a BMW was cheaper who'd a thought? I am kind of glad that i have got it though because technically a bit better than those others (independent rear suspension) and to get a comparable car (2 litre or as quick) you have to spend loads. Also you can buy all the parts for them.

Its done 160,000 miles it is a 1600cc and it cost me £1600.

The interior was good (especially with my moto lita wheel!) and the body is good, a little bit of surface rust but solid in the important bits.

The engine was knackered. So i have got myself a 2.0 one from a 2002 some high comp. pistons, twin 40 dellortos and rebuilt the engine with my dad. I have also got a some -30mm lowering springs and some bilsteins.

It will be back on the road (for a rather dull running in period) by the end of this month. I will post more pics when it is done.

Sounds like a good project looks good on the MiniLites!

Proper Retro, more interesting in many ways than a mk1/2 escort!

A guy who lives in my flats has a bright orange one of these with black alloys (interesting look I must say). Been meaning to ask him what it was. Now I know, cheers!

Had one of these about 20 years ago, and it was fantastic fun, different looking, and very reliable.

Good luck

That looks great thumbup No idea why but I just love 70's/ 80's Mercs and Beemers. Far cooler than an Escort imo.

My mate has one of these rusting away in one of his barns, I must show him this thread, prehaps it will inspire him to sort it out.

Lovely car.

yes +1

the 'Scorts are great fun cars, but the Essex boy image/appearance may be a bit off putting to some, yet these period germans ooze calm coolness IMO cool
love the OP's example, that looks fantastic fun!

Thanks, I was going to put a link to a photo-bucket album or something but didn't get time (i think i have the code sorted now) but no need now, thank you again.

Also thanks for the good feedback.

I really cant wait to get it back on the road, ive been doing this new engine and sorting my suspension out since december!!! By the end of this month it will be done!

The Minilites were the first thing i bought, then i whipped off those bumpers.
this is what it looked like when i got it=

A few more pics...

After this is done i need to get my dad to start and finish the restoration of his '69 2litre Alfa GTV.

Do you guys know of any "classic" friendly track days?

I am preparing in period so will receive the kind of upgrades that the works cars et al would have got at the time. There is a slim possibility that it will be race prepared and to be eligible in the Historic Touring Car Series it needs to remain that way.

It will initially be prepared for trackdays/hillclimbs/sprints and then see how it goes from there, my initial aim is to get around 150-170bhp from it but time will tell!

A 2002 and an Alfa 2000GTV in the same thread.
I've wanted one (both) of these for ages.

Nice tii! Yeah stick with that M10.

I would love to race mine and when i stop being a student and get a proper job i might do just that.

If the question about LeMans was directed at me then the answer is no. I didn't go to LeMans unfortunately, my car hasn't been on the road since January. Hopefully next year though.

Coolio it was one just the same then little rocket it was, and I wasn't slow, but he came past me as if I was stood still.
Good luck with it and hopefully see you there next year.
