Remapping? is it worth it??
Discussion
Remapping on a turboed car is well worth it if you want some extra power for not much money. Make sure you go to a reputable tuner however (such as Jabba Sport or Tunit).
Be aware however that increasing power will also increase wear on some engine components and clutches especially. A 30 bhp or so increase should give you a good noticeable boost in performance without unduly affecting reliability.

Hello...for the 1.9 tdi you would be looking at a minumum of 30% increase in BHP and 50% in torque...so a minimum of 136 BHP after a map. Like someone has already mentioned, make sure you go to a reptuble tuner however it is also important to realise that unless you are having a customised remap, all standard performace remap files come from the same place, which us tuners have to go to and purchase...(VAG files are all trailed and tested in Germany and then sold to us remappers) so whether you pay £250 or £600 you will be looking at the same increases(unless of course you have a custom map eg you want the car to take off at a certain rev level ect)
Who ever you go to, as long as they have good reliable equipment then you will end up with very good gains. We work alongisde Chipped UK so our remap gains on this model would be the same. Some other companies may quote different but I like to say the minimum gains though, as you dont 100% know what your car is running at currently(obviously the older the car the more horses it loses)and also you will be exceeded in your expectations!

I disgree with you, some companies files are slightly different to others.Who ever you go to, as long as they have good reliable equipment then you will end up with very good gains. I have been on Rolling road days where there have been several of the same car tuned and untuned and there are differences between maps!
Yes you are right...some companies have different types of equipment and they write their own files or they can create custom files based on the cars original map, so yes there will be different files. But the point im trying to make is that companys may use different files but the gains will be around the same eg our non-custom maps will be the same as ChippedUK's, as we use the same files as them.
All im saying is that make sure you go to a reptuble company, and shop around because you can get the same quality map and the same gains at very varying prices, it depends if you want to pay the extra just for the name.

Remapping is definatly worth is as far as Pounds for horses go.
I used to own a Fiat Punto JTD. 85hp (ish) as standard and had it remapped to approx 120hp for £300. Felt like I was driving a completly different car after the remap.
Make sure the clutch is upto scratch before going for it though. All that extra torque & power will make any problems alot more evident.

Was that a proven increase (ie on a r/r) Thats impressive for a car with such little power to start withI used to own a Fiat Punto JTD. 85hp (ish) as standard and had it remapped to approx 120hp for £300. Felt like I was driving a completly different car after the remap.

Not proven on my car but a friend (through another car forum) with the same model and the same remap from the same company had his rolling roaded at 118.6bhp and something silly torque.
The company itself quotes an increase of 50bhp although this seems a little bit over the top. Bearing in mind though that the same basic engine was also available in the Fiat Bravo with 105bhp as standard.

Fair enough mate, and mus transform the performance. Nice one.The company itself quotes an increase of 50bhp although this seems a little bit over the top. Bearing in mind though that the same basic engine was also available in the Fiat Bravo with 105bhp as standard.

I had my CLK55 AMG remapped and delimited by DMS but IMO it wasn’t worth the £1K+. Okay I did get 163mph at Vmax Glacier but that’s about the only benefit.
I got my car mapped also by DMS Automotive, didnt pay that high price though!Very happy with the car and aftercare etc.
Car went from a 13.9@101.5mph quarter mile to a 13.5@105mph.
Datron timed 0-60: 5.4 0-100: 12.5 compared to stock figures of 5.8 and 13.7.
Car goes really well now!
