My Alfasud Sprint

Some of you who visited the PH show in January would have seen my Sprint. To be honest it wasn't looking at it's best (Partially Zymols fault, but mostly mine). Since the show it's been hiding in the garage while I do a bit of prep work. Here are some pic's it's still a bit of a work in progress, but I want to get it ready for Spring Alfa day this Sunday in Kent.

I think it looks better. It certainly weighs less.

I was looking at them years ago, but all the ones I viewed were so rusty that I ended up getting a Mk2 Scirocco instead - not recommended. The Alfa's a much better drive than the VW.

I love the Sprint,though make sure you keep the corrosion under control!!

My old man had one of them years ago. One of my favorite cars.

Good to see one tnat hasn't rusted away.

Got any picks of the dash. At the time it was something else and so so sexxxxxxy.

Very rare nowadays! A mate had a red Cloverleaf Sprint. After driving it I reckoned it felt like an Italian Mk2 Scirocco performance and handling wise, but sounded rortier! His ended up rusting itself to death; it was 20% original metal 80% welding.

Some lovely examples here. I had one about 10 years ago, registration A656VOC. I don't suppose anyone knows where it is now? Scrapped probably!

Terminal rot in:

O/S Sill Inner and Outer
N/S Sill Inner and Outer
N/S/F Inner Wing
O/S/F Inner Wing
O/S A post and piller
N/S/R Arch
N/S/R Roof
Rear valance

Plus all outer panels were corroded beyond repair apart from the bonnet, which I still have!

We still have one in the family, identical to that one in fact. Learnt to drive in it and don't ever really want to see it go!

Have to say I prefer it with the bumpers. That must be one of the very last ones?

If I remember rightly there are a few on F reg's too?

There's loads about on F reg plates. Plus a few on G reg plates.

Mine was one of the last with the much better inboard front brakes.

In my experience the inboard brakes aren't really up to much. A mate bought a SUD Ti with that set up. He spent a lot of time and effort (they are a complete pain to work on apparently) to refurbish them to "as new". The car would have slowed down better if we'd just opened the doors and let the wind resistance do it's work. Not to mention almost instant fade and the fact if you use the hand-brake after a brisk drive you'll probably warp the disks. He's currently in the process of converting the car to outboards form a 33.
The late sprints have the 33 set up which is much better I've used plenty of cars with this set up on track days with no problems. Plus servicing is far easier.
All that said my next project is to fit 145 front brakes.
