hi just joined pistonheads hoping i can find some people who have or had a 106 quicksilver.
recently bought one which i love but things dont seem right with it sometimes. took it to garage but not getting things sorted. so i was hoping some of you guys can help me out a little if anyone knows anything about them. besides the problems i was hoping to talk about other things to do with the quicksilver too.

Aside from fitting some tasteful wheels do nothing to it. The Quicksilver looks just fine as it is.

What problems are you having with it?

Only thing to do with a quiksilver is put a proper engine in it!

What's "wrong" with it then?

Mine had real trouble starting when cold, the Idle Control Valve (ICV) was fked, I believe. It also leaked whenever it rained, and the gearbox was made of jam, still my favourite car though - loved it biggrin.

well first off it can be slow at first then it will surge but then it will go back to being slow. its not a problem driving it but when you wanna put your foot down its 50/50 what it will do.
and when i go into second gear it grinds/jars alittle. makes me not wanna go into second gear incase it breaks. got a knocking noise also when i turn steering wheel. doesnt happen all the time but its noticable when it does happen. took it to a garage and they said they cant find the problem even though they heard it. said to bring it back if it breaks down. any help is much appreciated smile
sorry for delay in reply.

Sounds like you have a problem with your gearbox which could explain the crunching and potentially power problems.

The knocking on turning the steering wheel could be one of many things, worn shock absorbers being one.

Might I suggest you get yourself over to a Pug forum where you might be able to get a bit more advice. Somewhere like 106 owners, or the Peugeot GTi Autosport Club (quieter but better knowledge) should be able to resolve your problems for you smile.

How old is your Quiky by the way?

its a 2000 model. i had the gearbox reconditioned but this problem is there and i took it back but they didnt do anything to correct it. bit pissed. i did read somewhere that the 106's do have a surging power problem but wanted to put it to you guys to hear anything different. as i know absolutly nothing about mechanics i cant suggest to the mechanics myself what may be the problem so im just going on their word to sort things but their not much help alot of the time.
