...my mother's car that is
Mrsd (jnr) has just come back from the barn with some rather bad news. Earlier on we ran over some wood that fell from the (badly balanced, badly loaded, badly maintained ) trailer in front of us. And now there's an egg sized bulge in the sidewall of the F/NS tyre on the beemer

Decent tire fitter within striking distance of Bakewell anyone ? (Mum's lads (oo-er) on holiday ATM)

That's a bugger Jaydee.

Popped a tyre on my mum's motor last saturday going up a kerb. 53 quid it cost me And space saver spare tyres. What a load of crap they are. The one in the Yaris affords less grip than a cartoon bannana skin.

....I'm still recovering from shock, because upon reading the thread title and it being under your name, I was thinking - "Oh, please - not the F1..."

Ah, all better now. Commiserations, etc, etc...

No. Not the F1 (phew) as I'm not currently insured (bast___ insurers are being awkward about dad's portfolio policy). Unfortunately I have cracked the rim so I'm now seeking asylum (from my mother) Wonder if the Albanians will let me stay ???

Well, can't help you with the rim, but form reading your mum's posts she seems a thouroughly decent sort and will understand that this was not your fault.

Besides, I'm sure she would rather have a cracked rim than a cracked JayDee...

phone round and try and get a replacement rim, take to tyre place, get new tyre to same spec etc if pos, then jack the car up and do a swap. Probably wont be cheap, but its the only real option?

Whats the spare like You'll still need to sort it but it buys you a bit more time
BMW usually give you a spare the same as the road wheels

OUCH!!!! as raceboy says, check out the spare if the car has one that is, and maybe call a few breakers yards see if you can get hold of one abit cheaper?

Cheers raceboy A well known prestige car breaker is going to courier one to me £127.50 all inc. I'll get it crack tested just in case, but I'll save approx. 700 pints
Spare is space-saver rubbish

I'm just impressed that you're able to send MrsD (jnr) to make an assessment of such a thing.

Glad you're getting it sorted OK. Hell hath no fury like a MrsD with a broken car...

Surprised to hear about the space saver, what BMW is it, I've always found a matching alloy in the boot of any I've had to deal with, except Z's

1) Nope, she was just getting something from the barn and happened to notice it. She couldn't even tell the insurers what model her car was last week

2) Damn right
