I sold my dads vr6 for £800 last year. It was on a 96 with low miles and mint allround condition. The only thing wrong with it was the ring gear was warn and needed replacing soon as it was automatic. That would of been a good buy for someone to use it as a donor to make there mk2 interesting.

mk2 gti kerbweight is 907kg in original trim., mk3 vr6 is 1155kg.....thats a shed load of difference between the mk2 and mk3.....wonder how much more the v6 engine weighs???...surely the mk2 with the vr6 must still be under 1000kg...??....
What's the difference between a 4 pot MK2 and MK3?biggbn said:
the four cylinder mk3 gti weighed 1100kg...., so fair to asume my car weighs about 960/970kg as the v6 lump must be 55kg heavier at the most...????....and its rhd......
So a standard MK2 is about 200kgs lighter than a MK3 with the same engine? didn't think it would be that much as they are both well built cars of similar size. What's the difference when they're stripped out? I imagine there's more weight to be shaved from the MK3.A mate of mine had a cracking VR6 with quite a lot of work done to it. I have still to this day never heard a better V6. The exhaust note sent a shiver down your back, and beyond the red line was quite amazing. It was the kind of car that would have people turning around to see what the hell had just landed from a good 100-200 meters away.
He has had a few quick cars since, evo, S3 etc and still regrets parting ways with it. I went on a rally with him around Cheshire once as co-pilot and how it held some of the corners I will never know. VR6 Corrado's are great cars.
