Always wanted one of these and happened to chance upon a red 1990 manual. It's had a lady owner for the last 9 years who upgraded to an RX-8 about a year ago but was offered peanuts in part-ex so was going to sell it privately but got fed up with all the time wasters and boy racers just wanting a test drive. It remained at her parents place since last May when the tax and test ran out.

I picked it up on Saturday and spent most of today cleaning it in and out, with a couple of hours and half a bottle of t-cut it's come up really well. Took the tow bar off as it looks naff and won't be needed, there's still a piece that I can get access to without removing the rear bumper (any help on how to remove the rear bumper much appreciated)

Got an MOT booked for Wednesday, then if all's OK I'll be giving it a full service.

For this type of car it was refreshing to find one completely standard, it's got the original wheels, steering wheel, gear knob, even the original radio and a standard exhaust and air filter.

The only problems with it is the aerial's stuck halfway up and doesn't budge, this doesn't seem to affect the reception just looks annoying, and there's a bit of rust on the tailgate bubbling from where the spoiler attaches, and a bit on the rear edge of the sills (all the arches are fine though)

What do you all think of her?

im disapointed thats not your transit in the picture.
looks a peach for a pre-facelift.
watch for the big ends yikes and get a new steering wheel.
more importantly make sure the side windows are clean at all times hehe

I was taking my BX to it's new owner in SE London and got this from Essex on the way back. Didn't want to risk my old 70 bhp van breaking down so for peice of mind I hired that one (with a turbo!driving) for the 400 mile round trip.

Ha. Ha.

It's only got 95k on the clock but the last owner said the odo was intermittant, last MOT was at 94k on the clock so I think it's more like 105k TBH.

Very little service history unfortunatley, the book's stamped up to about 1999 when she got it then her dad did the oil changes and stuff. I will change the plugs, oil and filters if it the MOT result is not too bad on Wednesday.

Put her back in the garage for now and spent a bit of time cleaning the steering wheel with some Autoglym leather cleaner and some leather conditioner (smells really nice!) and it's come up a lot better.

That really does look pristine. A future classic imo (as one of the last unmodified s13's). thumbup

Remove the trim under the spoiler to check how much rust there really is.

Ah good, another S13 owner. Don't worry about rust on the tailgate as they all do it and you car seems very clean indeed. Nice to see one in such an unmolested state although they do come with what are possibly the worse alloys in the history of motoring. Could do with some handbrake adjustment though!

Want to get the MOT done first, if the failure sheet is as long as my arm then I won't bother and will probably end up tracking it. If it passes without too much work then the plan is to keep it as a second 'fun' car. I got rid of my old 911 last week as it used to worry me having too much money tied up in a car, after a couple of bad experiences I ended up using it less and less. The idea with this is I won't worry about leaving it parked places, expensive bills, or throwing it off the road.

Thanks for your kind words guys. Will let you know how it gets on on Wednesday - fingers crossed!

Nice one Craig - just think, our cars could have been next to each other on the boat over here from Japan!

I may well be picking your brains in the future with what to do to mine, it all depends on the MOT result tomorrow.

Sniff Petrol,

Looks totally original and tidy too, even has an Essex registration number to go with the owners location. Top work chap.

Good to see an original one, they're actually a very nice car when the 'modding' brigade havent managed to get their paws on it.

Many happy miles biggrin

Failed but not as badly as I feared:

-emissions co2 too high 4.5% (limit is 3.5%) think some injection cleaner and a decent run should sort that since the car had stood for some 18 months.
-steering column bush has some play in it,
-number plate bulb,
-rear passenger side brake pipe corroded,

Had an advisory on one tyre and a bit of rust at the rear end of both sills.

Gave it a service this afternoon, changed oil + filter, air filter and spark plus. Got the brake pipe, just need to source the bush since my local motor factors couldn't help - any good sites for parts?

Already did, trailered it to the MOT centre on the back of an industrial estate and took it for a raz round some bit of industrial waste land. What seemed like half throttle, 2nd gear in the dry the wheels slipped and had a tank slapper. Never had a turbo petrol car before so the lag will take a bit of getting used to.
