My E30 project
Discussion
On this particularly boring friday afternoon I thought I would post a couple of pictures of my project car.
It started life as a bought for buttons E-bay throw away car. The idea was to strip it, recoup the cost by selling tha parts out of it. If it was strong enough do a few track days till it died.
This is how she started life. 325SE with every optional extra fitted, including air con - cruise - heated leather etc etc.
I spent a bit of time stripping out the monster stereo and anything else that wasn't nailed down.
At about this time the unthinkable happened. While removing the sun roof cage I got a little carried away with the angle grinder and crow bar. I holed the roof and managed to half cave it in. At around the same time a good friend of mine said those imortal words ''bring the bloody thing to me and I will sort it out for you'' That's when it all began .......
Once the car was there we decided that maybe we would spend a little effort on making it a little more interesting.
First up we decided on a cage. Well actually my friend told me to buy a 6 point cage from Sparco or OMG and I bought a monster weld in cage from 'Custom cages'. He hasn't forgiven me since.
The air turned blue when the 36 lengths of non descript tube arrived.
A lot of time and effort later it was fitted. The fact the car was a 4 door didnt help matter as for instance the 'B' pillar needed moding.
At the same time the suspension arrived.
With the dash out I decided to get it flocked.
By now it was apparent that a decent spray job was required so we started stripping the car in earnest
Plastic windows were made by a local glasing company. Fibreglass bonnet and rear spoiler
Full poly bush set fitted.
Windscreen and rear window removed. Heated front screen bought to replace the heater.
A seat was fitted and removed
Random
then it was off to the painters
GT3 RS orange with a few black bits was the choice
The rebuild starts
New discs and pads - i will respray the calipers at some point.
Random
Wheels and bumpers fitted and we are almost ready to go.
So 16 months after we started the old girl gets its first outing at Bedford next weekend. The big unknown is the engine which other than a good service hasn't moved the car more than 2 miles in a loooong time.
As always a massive thanks to Gareth for all his help. Oh and I musnt forget Jimmy and the rest of the guys too.

been looking on e30 zone for a while at this ongoing project, looks really good work, hats of to you. just out of interest why did you chose the saloon over the coupe?
For no reason other than I got it cheap. It was supposed to be a muck about project with me spending peanuts on it and enjoying it while it lasted. As with all these things it kind of progressed. You know what, I love the fact it's a 4 door now, makes it different from the rest.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
