I've just joined piston heads which seems like a very sensible decision compared with last weeks decision to buy an XJS 4.0 (post facelift) with 140,000 mile son the clock. Just been from Birmingham to Mold (North Wales) in it with no "real" issues except for losing the back end on a roundabout through Shrewsbury. I also own and normally drive an '03 530i (E39) or my partners Mini Cooper S.

My question to all Piston HEads is what do you think of the XJS, does anyone on here own one and what problems have they suffered, and what are reasonable upgrades for it (besides Traction Control!!)

I'm sure some people actually manage to get the pics in the message but I'm still not sure how.

Very elegant, the XJS - well done that man. 140k miles must make it one of the highest mileage ones about too...

Well I was a little worried about the mileage but at the price I could at least afford to work on it should it break. Now I'm sure I've seen a v8 supercharged XJS somewhere.....

Mileage is over-rated as a way of judging cars - yours looks to be in fantastic condition and I'm sure the mechanicals will go on forever with sensible maintenance.

cheers, was quite amusing this morning getting into the BM afte rthe XJS and seeing what good brakes, engine and suspension were all about. But also realising it was nothing like as good looking. Jaguar were really ahead of their time with the looks.

clap Nice one. Love XJS's. My dad's got a '89 V12 Convertible thats got a similar mileage - most of which were motorway miles. It's always had regular service & is garaged, hopefully it'll go on & on.
