Mr XL is after a V6 and if he sees this it is going to push him over the edge.
I would definetly recommend one.
When looking for mine I did consider the MK2 but could not really justify spending the extra 5-6K for the amount of use it gets.
I must admit that the build quality is alot better on the MK2 when you see them next to eachother and I haven't driven a MK2 but understand the handling has been vastly improved. Saying all that I wouldn't swap now, I don't think I'd give a MK2 the same respect, which would only end in tears and a ditch.

I have fallen in love with it, can't imagine ever selling it at the moment, but there is always this nagging feeling in my mind that I want something quicker that handles better!!! But then I think of the rareity of it and the challenge it is to drive.
