Since it has stopped raining, and the suns come out, I thought I'd take a few pics of my recently acquired bargain Volvo barge.

Acquired for the princely sum of £292.99 off Ebay!

Sweet - that thing will just keep on going.

My FIL just bought something similar. An old 740 with 175k on the clock. Drives like it's done 75k. BIL has a 240 that's done around 300k.

Ideal barge, does everything it says on the name. One of the first actual barges to be around at that time, good luck with it.

Are you taking it to the Nurbargering 2008?

Nearly, but the exhaust needs a bit of tlc, and possibly a new part or two. It's done just over 217,000 miles, and the leather on the drivers seat is just showing signs of wear.

I've got one of htese with the b230ft and 200k on the clock.
Great cars easy to mod and get extra power very cheaply.
Let me know if you need any ideas as i've modded mine.
Got modded uprated suspension to go on this week and all new discs and pads aswell.

Fantastic.

Friends of mine have a couple of Volvos, a 1994 960 GLE Estate with 230,000 on the clock and a 1999 V70 T5 with 90,000 on the clock, they are brilliant cars.

UPDATE:

The V5 turned up over christmas, so down to the Post Office today to tax it, and I've been wafting around today. Why didn't I buy a barge sooner?

Just to keep people informed, I have now done just over 800 miles in the Volvo, including a 100 odd mile round trip to Burnley today to see my niece (21st B'day). Car still impressing me, and appears to be doing around 26mpg in mixed driving. I'll try and get a better mpg figure for my trips to work this week, and I'll post up some more costs when I get around to servicing it. But so far apart from petrol, (and insurance and tax of course), I have spent nothing on it.

I had one of these, it was on a 'D' Plate and had covered well over 200,000 miles. I actually got it as a swap for a 340! It had broken down and the owner needed a car quickly so I did a quick swap, only took me about half an hour to sort the problem out.

It was a great car, nice and comfortable and totally rust and dent free. I would have kept it had I not been totally skint!

Ah those were the days when you needed a car as big as a volvo to carry a carphone.

She's a beauty that's for sure..

with all this rain it's reassuring to know that you have something that can float.

Can confirm, 26mpg as near as makes no diference on my commute to work which is about as mixed as you can get, 5 miles through shit traffic to motorway, short hop on M6, A roads almost to Blackpool (shorter and less boring than M'way), and another short hop on M55 virtually to door. Done well over a 1000 miles now, next update will be servicing costs. Oh and the electrically heated seats work just fine thank you.

Ah yes, had one just like it. Built like the Exxon Valdez, except slower and doesn't handle as well

Good work, that's a nice old bucket. Don't plan on going anywhere if it snows though, my old 740 once got stuck in a supermarket car park in no more than an inch of the stuff. At least the heated seats provided me with a warm arse as I waited to be towed.

mmmm, that's interesting given that I'm commuting to work in it at the moment, and there's snow forecast. Might have to borrow the wifes Saab. Mind you could be very interesting in a sideways type way, (does forcing the auto box into 3 work to keep the revs down when you pull off?).
