This is my new daily driver - picked it up on Saturday and have already burnt a whole tank of petrol. Sorry about the rather poor pictures, but the weather hasn't been great. Not that it's stopped me hooning around West Sussex all weekend :-). Thank God for four wheel drive...

That looks nice, and you've some lovely roads down there as well.

Do you think 4WD was a welcome addition then?

Thanks for all the positive comments, chaps smile. I've spent the last two weeks terrified about the financial side of things, but all forgetten as soon as I collected it!

Roads around W. Sussex are great - I spent first thing Sunday morning "testing" on the A272 between Billingshurst and Midhurst. Even with a damp road, it really was awesome! Which brings me to 4WD. I've no reference point (never driven a RWD 911), but this car has (seemingly) unbreakable traction and mindblowing acceleration. It's also quite compact, which makes it unintimidating. Only thing I'm worried about is how long my license will stay intact...

Interestingly I have just bought a 996 C4S and although I think it is probably more civilised drive than your motor, I now wish I had gone 993 shape as i too think it is aesthetically very pleasing.... I too worried about the money... but we are here for a good time not a long time after all.

Hi Paul, I share your views on life, I think! I haven't got experience of the 996 (although I think the widebodies are very pretty) but I'd say the 993 is pretty civilised. What surprises me most is the way it glides along the road, no crashes or bangs in evidence. In this respect it reminds me of a Clio Williams, in that it feels unhurried, even when pushing on (I haven't "pushed on" hard in the Turbo yet, I'm working up to that very gently indeed!).

Clearly there is a great deal of power available, but it deploys it very linearly and therefore seems quite easy to keep in check. So far it feels almost benign.
